BHMS Principal's Update 11/29/21
Keeping Up with What is Going on at the Hill!!!
We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. We are aware that some students and families were not able to see extended family and friends because of either quarantine due to COVID-19 or other life circumstances. Regardless as to how you spent the weekend, we hope you were around those who love you and who you love. Sometimes the noise of the news and social media gets in the way of helping us understand the importance of our humanity. For this 4-day weekend, I hope we were all able to recalibrate and really focus on what and who is important in our lives.
We have a big event this Friday. We are starting our journey to be considered a school that commits to being one designated as a school of "No Place for Hate." We have earned this distinction through the Anti Defamation League for the last two years. It is our hope that while we continue to make gains, we are still a middle school with lots of work to do in this arena. We need to realize that committing to being a school of "No Place for Hate" is that we strive to be the best version of ourselves day in and day out. And while sometimes, our middle school impulsivity can take over at times, the essence of who we are strives to ensure all individuals are treated and spoken to kindly. It is the essence of the Resolution of Respect for No Place for Hate and the essential component of what it means to be a Bulldog.
This newsletter will talk about our No Place for Hate events on 12/2 and 12/3 during the students' lunch periods. We will be talking about and respecting International Day of Persons with Disabilities this week as well as signing the resolution of respect. We will also have a PJ day to raise awareness for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Sincerely,
Mike D'Ostilio

Reminders about Protocols Updated 10/30/21
Lastly, vetted at the district Health and Safety Subcommittee of the district's Coronavirus Task Force was a change, especially at the middle level. As long as we remain in the Green or Yellow Status Levels for COVID-19 in our region, we will begin having students use the locker rooms to change for PE. This will allow for students to be able to fully particate in PE under the following provisions:
- Regular PE can only resume when we are in the green or yellow phase. If the CALI scores take us back to orange or above, we will suspend changing until it returns to yellow.
- Locker assignments will attempt to spread children out as much as possible while in the locker room. We should not be assigning a bank of lockers in numerical order so we can avoid having kids on top of one another while changing. We must attempt, as best as possible to try to keep them 3 feet apart. This will help reduce close contacts.
- Mask must be worn at all times in the locker rooms while changing.
- Students will be able to use the restrooms in the locker rooms instead of having to leave the gym to use the restroom in the hall.

Building Better Bulldogs (3Bs) Mission and Vision
This pandemic has created so many questions and concerns for students that are well beyond academics. We are committed to providing a safe environment where students can express themselves as they question the ebb and flow of their world around them.
