What Types of Degrees or Certifications are Needed?

Employers of Marketing Research Analysts typically require them to have a bachelor's degree in Market Research, or another related field. College courses like statistics, research, and marketing methods are courses that need to be well understood in order to be successful in this field. Some jobs may require a master's degree, but most people who have master degrees in this job have them in things like business administration.

Certification is more of a voluntary thing. The Marketing Research Association offers the Professional Research Certification (PRC) for Marketing Research Analysts. You can qualify for the certification with knowledge and experience. However, they must also pass an exam, be a member of the organization, and have at least 3 years of experience in marketing or opinion research. In order to maintain the validity of the certification, you must complete 20 hours of industry level education every two years.
