Technology Issues
In order to streamline and to be as efficient as possible, I am asking the staff to PLEASE not email Ron Marling or Rita directly if it is something Kelly could do a work order for instead. They have been swamped with emails and questions. The best approach is have Kelly Johnston turn in a technology work order. She is our official technology representative at Edgelea. A BIG thank you in advance to Kelly. This will keep everything streamlined and organized for Ron and Rita.
Obviously, some of you working directly with Ron or Rita on the Tech Team or on a special project, may have a reason to email them directly and that is perfectly fine.
Maintanence Issues
Personal Protective Equipment-PPE and Social Distancing
If you are in need of any type of PPE for your classroom, please let me and Deb Davidson know via email. Don't wait until you are completely out, give us a little warning so we have time to get supplies to you.
As we talked about in an earlier email, continue to be protective and vigilant in your efforts to keep your class isolated from other students in other classrooms. We want to limit the exposure.
Remember the definition of CLOSE CONTACT- anyone within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE continue to social distance 6 ft. from your coworkers and students.
Time Clocks
Free Breakfast and Lunch to ALL Students
From Scott Howard, Chartwells Director:
The State of Indiana has adopted the necessary waivers that will allow us to serve both breakfast and lunch for FREE to ALL students. The free meals will begin this coming Monday, the 14h. We are preparing flyers and language to get out to all of our parents and students. I will do this first thing in the morning on Monday. I would like to ask all of you to please make an announcement in the morning to all students. Especially in secondary schools where we are seeing numerous students not eating at all. I recently spoke to about 20 or so of these students at Jeff and they are all telling me they just don’t have the money. So, this can really bring some relief to those kids.
- Elementary students do not need their ID badges for now. This waiver expires December 31st, so in January they will need those ID Cards, but for now schools can put these aside.

Virtual United Way Campaign
The United Way will be asking all Edgelea Employees to join them for a short virtual meeting on September 15 at 3:15. We will view it in the cafeteria where we will social distance. Please read below for more important information regarding the benefits of United Way and what is offered to our Edgelea families and the Lafayette Community. PLEASE CONSIDER donating to the UNITED WAY this year.
As you know, the United Way supports our Edgelea families in a variety of ways. This year, they are offering HOT SPOTS to families that have several students doing eLearning in a home but have limited bandwidth. They financially support the Beck Lane Boys and Girls Club which many of our families utilize.
United Way of Greater Lafayette is bringing relief to the area’s most vulnerable individuals and families as well as funded partner agencies as our community begins to experience the short-term and long-term impacts of the coronavirus outbreak.
Food distribution to students affected by school closures and other food insecure populations that are isolated or lack access
2. Rent, utility, and prescription medication assistance for those displaced by employment interruption
3. Access to childcare for families effected by closures especially for essential medical and emergency response staff
4. Services and shelter for people experiencing homelessness who lack the resources to stay safe and receive medical treatment
5. Access to mental health and substance use services during a time when isolation can significantly impact progress

Safe Schools
Additional Information from Dr. Layton
Safe Schools continues to be our preferred method of reaching staff with what we call compliance trainings. The state requires some trainings to be done annually, some to be done every other year and some to be done every three years. All compliance trainings mandated by the state for the 20-21 cycle in the LSC are on your Safe Schools account. Most have a deadline of October 31 but we encourage you not to procrastinate. Safe Schools will continue to send e-mails to you on a weekly basis until all mandatory trainings are completed. Certificates of completion can be printed and uploaded to teachers LVIS professional growth plans to receive PGP’s for teacher license renewal. Do NOT send certificates to Hiatt. We can see and access all completed certificates from the Safe Schools e-warehouse. You can direct all concerns about Safe Schools to myself jlayton@lsc.k12.in.us or Heather McCarter at hmccarter@lsc.k12.in.us. The Safe Schools login page is here: https://lsc-in.safeschools.com/login
HOUSE COLORS
T-shirts have been distributed. If you have not received a t-shirt, please stop in the office to claim yours.
On September 18, we will have students in each of our classrooms, do a sorting of houses. They will select their colors, too. On Oct. 8, we will distribute House Color T-Shirts to all students. Everyone will wear their house colors on Oct. 9.
It would be awesome if we had our staff teams do a video introduction to their House Color for the classes to watch. For example all of the YELLOW House would get together and create a fun, welcoming 2-3 minute video. The classroom teachers would play the videos for the classes on HOUSE Sorting Day. This would be on September 18th. We will distribute staff t-shirts on September 9. We will also send out a master list of staff members and who is in what HOUSE.
Smile Photo
Please send a photo of yourself with a big smile to Deb Davidson. We have a plan that is sure to bring smiles to your faces.
Deb Davidson ddavidson@lsc.k12.in.us
We are excited to see all of your beautiful, smiling faces!

Septemeber 25 College T-shirt Day
As we think ahead to College T-Shirt Day, the purpose is simply to
ntroduce students to career and college exploration in elementary school. This will provide them the opportunity to establish a foundation for more in-depth conversations and exploration about their futures in later years. It is as simple as asking kids, 'what do you want to do when you grow up"? Encouraging students to have good attendance so that they can learn and grow their brains. Learning and being successful in school gives students choices about their future.
Wear your favorite college t-shirt on September 25th !

It might be anything from a read aloud to a STEM lesson or project based learning activity.
