Spooky Duke Info
Hey everybody! Spooky Duke is coming up in 3 short weeks! This annual race raises money for Parent to Parent Family Support Network. Without the support of fundraisers like Spooky Duke, Parent to Parent would not be able to do all of the work they do to support families who have children with special needs in 7 counties here in the High Country. Let's support their mission by signing up as many people as we can for the race!
For our App Ed team, all runners and walkers will need to fill out a PAPER registration packet, not the online registration (this way you only pay $15 instead of $20!). These packets are in the James Center (5th floor of RCOE) and need to be filled out ASAP and returned to the James Center by October 10th. Payment for the race ($15 for both the 5k and the 10k) needs to be included with your registration packet when you fill it out. This can be either cash or check, and all checks can be made out to Parent to Parent. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Dinner with the Dean-October 18 6:00pm RCOE 124B/C
It's your favorite Social Committee here to tell you about Dinner with the Dean! Dinner with the Dean is an opportunity to eat and socialize not only with fellow education majors, but with the Dean of the Reich College of Education, Dr. Melba Spooner
Dinner with the Dean is a potluck style dinner, so we encourage you to take advantage of your excess meal plan money, catering from a place of your choice! Come dressed in your best "teacher" attire (business casual), directly following the App Ed meeting on October 18th.
This event can only be as yummy and as fun as we make it! Hope to see many of you there! Click here to sign up for your covered dish (be mindful of allergies).
We cannot wait to see all of your tasty creations and smiling faces!
Xoxo,
Social Committee

She's the First
Hello everyone! I am Sara Harrison! And I am part of She's the First, a club on campus that raises money for girls in other countries to have an education that they otherwise couldn't receive. We are currently selling a t-shirt to raise money so that we will, hopefully, be able to sponsor two more girls! This is truly an amazing opportunity for us future educators to make a difference not just in our community, but all around the world for children who deserve their education! The shirts are $20 and have a Malala Yousafzai quote on the back! The link below will take you to an order form where you can find more information on the shirt as well as make the purchase. When checking out you can select the "pick up from a friend" option and put my name and I could bring them to an App Ed meeting or meet you at another time! Please email me with any questions and to let me know if you purchased the shirt so we can get everything set up! Thank you all so much!

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) is pleased to announce the AERA Undergraduate Student Education Research Training Workshop. Senior researchers and faculty from both academic institutions and applied research organizations (i.e., The American Institutes for Research, Educational Testing Service, the College Board, and the Urban Institute) will introduce education research as a field and share their area of expertise and knowledge with the fellows. As part of the workshop activities, the fellows will attend pre-selected paper sessions and presentations during the AERA Annual Meeting. Workshop activities will also focus on exploring graduate education, applying to graduate school, and beginning a career in education research.

- Students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year of college in good academic standing.

About AERA: AERA, founded in 1916, is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and evaluation and by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results.
