IT'S A MATTER OF LIFE OR DEATH...
Birthmarked by Caragh M. O'Brien
Those Marked with A Code will Determine the Future
One marred by a scar will unravel the past. “Birthmarked” is set in a world, set in the future and baked dry by the hot sun. When her parents are arrested by the Enclave, Gaia sets out to find them and bring them home. When she enters the Enclave she makes a few friends including Leon, the adoptive son of the Protectorat, the “ruler” of the Enclave. The soldiers in the Enclave will kill or stop Gaia if she tries to escape but with the help of her friends she tries to get to her mother after finding that her father died because he was trying to escape. When she finds her mother, Bonnie Stone, she’s pregnant and she dies giving birth to Gaia’s younger sister, Maya, when they were trying to escape. Gaia and Maya make it out of the Enclave but Leon was left behind trying to sidetrack the soldiers from getting to Gaia. She ran to her friend, Emily’s house and stayed there for Maya’s sake.
Protectorat (Tom Hanks)
Tom Hanks one of the actors in “Cloud Atlantis” will play the role of “The Protectorat” perfectly and I think that his personality in other movies such as “Cloud Atlantis”. The Protectorat is a very serious man who seems to care about nothing but his own family and even that might not matter because he said that Leon, his adoptive son, was not his son anymore and ordered his men to kill him. In a way Tom Hanks was serious and brave in cloud Atlantis and I think that if we relate these two together he will make the perfect role.
Gaia (Ellen Page)
Ellen Page would make a wonderful and brave Gaia. Gaia is brave and willing to help her family and friends at any cost. Ellen had shown these characteristics while starring in ”X-MEN- Days of Future Past”. She was brave enough to face their greatest enemy as a teen and was willing to risk her life to save the people of the earth. If Ellen was to play the role of Gaia, I think that she wouldn’t need to try because she already played the role before.
Leon (Alex Pettyfer)
Alexander Pettyfer would be excellent in playing the role of Leon. In “Stormbreaker”, Leon acted as a quite yet brave man and was only kind to certain people. Leon in the book was a silent soldier and only yelled at everyone who wasn’t Gaia or one of his close friend/ family. I think that with these relative characteristic he will be able to make the perfect Leon.
They are Never Gone from Gaia...
The song can relate to the end of the book or the resolution in many ways. Gaia’s parents and friends are gone in a way from her. Gaia’s parents both died and Leon and Pearl and her family are all stuck inside the Enclave probably getting the worst of it from the Protectorat. In a way Gaia is not seperated from her family at all because in her heart she has memories of them and as long as she has memories, they’re always close to her. I think that she will see Leon and Pearl again because becuase the Protectorat might not have them in his clutches yet and they might escape from the Enclave. She will see her parents again when she dies too so in a way she’ll see everyone again and they will always be close to her. I think that the authors message is to hope and try again and again to achieve what you want to achieve.
I'll See You Again- Lyrics
And I will forever feel your strength
When I need it most
You're gone now, gone but not forgotten
I can't say this to your face
But I know you hear
[Chorus:]
I'll see you again
You never really left
I feel you walk beside me
I know I'll see you again
When I'm lost, I'm missing you like crazy
And I tell myself I'm so blessed
To have had you in my life, my life
[Chorus]
When I had the time to tell you
I never thought I'd live to see the day
When the words I should have said
Would come to haunt me
In my darkest hour I tell myself
I'll see you again
[Chorus x2]
I will see you again
I'll see you again
I miss you like crazy
You're gone but not forgotten
I'll never forget you
Someday I'll see you again
I feel you walk beside me
Never leave you, yeah
Gone but not forgotten
I feel you by my side
No this is not goodbye [x3]
