FJVD Weekly Info

We Live the Word!

From the Principal's Desk

Dear FJVD Families,

I am thrilled to announce that Hannah Mae Peloquin was born this past Friday morning, July 10th. Both mom and baby are doing well! Your continued prayers and well wishes are greatly appreciated.

A few important notes and updates regarding reopening plans for the fall:

Busing for Coventry Residents

If you reside in Coventry and your child is planning on taking the bus to school next year, please complete the registration from attached here and submit via email as soon as possible (and no later than July 31). This form should be completed and submitted by all Coventry residents interested in taking the bus for the 2020-2021 year, regardless of whether or not you were registered to take the bus during the 2019-2020 school year.

With additional precautions and planning taking place due to COVID-19, it is essential that the bus company know as soon as possible which Father Doyle students will be taking the bus during the 2020-2021 school year.

Feedback from the Catholic Schools Office

Our school reopening plan was submitted to the Catholic Schools Office (CSO) at the Diocese of Providence and has since received suggested revisions. Think of this review process similar to that of the public school systems who are submitting their plans to the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE). Just like with RIDE, the CSO is reviewing plans and making suggestions for revision; however, this is not an approval process.

While public school plans are due to RIDE for review today - Friday, July 17th - we have already submitted our plan to the Catholic Schools Office and received their feedback. With this in mind, the plan is currently in the final stages of editing in preparation to share with faculty, staff, and families.

Timeline for Publication of Reopening Plan & Town Hall Meetings

The first town hall meeting to review and discuss the reopening plan with families will be held on Thursday, July 23rd beginning at 7:00pm. More information, including the Zoom link for this webinar, will be sent to families in the coming week. The reopening plan will be sent to families via email prior to this meeting.

Please note that there will be multiple town halls held throughout the beginning of August to ensure families have an opportunity to ask questions and are appropriately prepared for the year ahead.

Planning for Uncertainty

It is important to remember that, while substantial research, planning, and preparation went into developing the reopening plan, we are - in many ways - aiming at a moving target. Ultimately, we do not know how the current health crisis will progress over the next month. As a result, keep in mind it is likely that the plan that is initially published and sent to families will need to be amended and adjusted in response to the changing nature of the crisis, as well as in response to additional studies, research, and findings.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work to develop a robust reopening plan that meets the unique needs of our school community.

Lastly, if your child is interested in participating in the 2020 Coventry Soccer Association Fall Developmental League, you can find more details about registration in the Forms and Important Documents section below.

Have a great weekend everyone! God bless and Go Saints!

Sincerely,

Mr. Peloquin

Aluminum Can Tab Collection

What: Aluminum can tabs are being collected

Why: To support the Ronald McDonald House in Providence

How can you help? Save can tabs and send them in to Mr. Godin’s room.

Bottle Cap Drive

We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This provides new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.

All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.

Thank you!
