Cultivating Critical Thinking and Creativity in Responsive Learning Environments
There are only 3 weeks left to the school year! These are often very busy days. There is still lots of learning, many end-of-year activities and celebrations, and we're planning for next year. Teachers are preparing Term 2 Report Cards which will go home on Tuesday, June 27th.
The JPS Country Fair which took place on Saturday, May 29th was a huge success! A big thanks goes to the organization of our positive, hard working parent council, their team of volunteers and our supportive, amazing families!
I would like to extend a huge thank-you to our parent council who generously donated $2000 to help us add to our maker space. At this point we have the following available to do creative, hands-on, problem solving activities with students:
- Elvis cart (hand tools to do wood working projects)
- 5 Mindstorm Lego Robotics kits (building and programming)
- Keva Planks (building)
- Squishy Circuits and LittleBits kits (circuitry and robotics)
- Makeo Cardboard building materials
- Five Sphero 2.0 robotic balls (programming)
These types of activities, provided as part of classroom instruction and in our maker club, increase student engagement and promote important 21st century skills such as creativity, collaboration, problem solving, communication, and perseverance.
The Jayhawks had another successful track and field season! Thank-you once again to Mrs. Roberts for her coaching and organization of about 60 students who participated. Thanks also to the many staff who helped coach events - it was truly a team effort. We are very proud of the effort and accomplishments of the students no matter what result they achieved!
We have two retirements to celebrate this year! After many years at Joyceville PS, Mrs. Pope retired in February. We are pleased that she will return to assist with graduation and we will have the opportunity to wish her well at our Arts Assembly on the last day of school. Mrs. Roberts is also retiring at the end of this year! We will have an assembly for her on June 23rd at 10:00 am. All are welcome to join us at these events.
As always, please contact me with any questions, concerns or ideas you would like to share.
