In 1830, President Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act which stole the land from the Native People in Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee to what became Oklahoma. It wasn't until 1924 that Native Americans were granted citizenship under Congress. There are approximately 175 Indigenous languages spoken in the United States today. | National Family Literacy Month This month, get the whole family snuggled up on the couch and open up a good book. Reading helps with vocabulary, writing skills, attention span, memory, and teaches us about other times and places. |
