PARK PENCIL POINT NEWSLETTER
November 30, 2023
The mission of the Chardon Local Schools is we commit to high achievement for all students.
It's hard to believe, but winter weather is on the way. At Park, students go outside unless it is below 15 degrees, so they must be prepared each day. That means the following items should come to school daily: COAT, BOOTS, SNOW PANTS, HAT, GLOVES, SCARF, etc. The best way to send these items to school is in a reusable grocery bag. Marc's sells big ones that hold everything nicely and seem to last the season. PLEASE MARK EVERYTHING WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME!!!
A few other things to mention:
We do not wear boots in the classroom, so be sure your child has indoor shoes to wear.
Students without the appropriate snow clothes will not be allowed to play in areas with snow, and will have to remain on the blacktop at recess.
Extra socks come in handy, so feel free to keep an extra pair in the snow gear bag.
Students must be able to dress themselves, which includes zipping coats and putting on gloves.
From the Principal Desk—
Hello Hilltopper Families:
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, rest and relaxation. It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is DECEMBER 1ST!
As we begin December, I look back on how quickly this school year has gone. Throughout these first few months in my new role, I want to thank each and every one of you for your patience and support. I am truly grateful for the wonderful students, families, staff and community that we have at Park Elementary.
In addition to entering this snowy time of year, it also means we are only a few weeks away from completing our first academic semester. Students have settled back into their routines this week and are excited for all of the holiday “extras” taking place this month like the Sugar Plum Shoppe, holiday concerts and festive assemblies. Winter benchmarking assessments will also be happening so it is important to make your best attempt to keep your children eating healthy foods, sleeping adequate hours and coming to school dressed for the cold weather. We do send children outside if the weather is 15 degrees or higher. Students love playing in the snow and are able to do so if they have the “high five” of snow attire. That means a hat, boots, gloves/mittens, snow pants and a coat.
As the holidays approach, it is easy to get caught up in the additional hustle and bustle of the season. Regular school attendance plays a crucial role in your child's academic success and overall development. Each school day provides valuable opportunities for learning, growth, and social development. Consistent attendance ensures that your child doesn't miss out on essential instruction, collaborative activities and important interactions with teachers and peers. I understand that life circumstances or illness may occasionally impact attendance. If your child is unable to attend school, please be sure to call the office to report his/her absence.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to your child's education. I wish you a wonderful start to your holiday season!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Makee

Hope you can join us!
