Weekly Family Update #41
May 30, 2021
Principal's Message
Hello Falcon Families,
We are excited to announce that due to changing health guidelines and feedback from our stakeholders, we are going to move to holding an on-campus promotion ceremony for all 8th grade students on Friday June 18th from 9:00-10:30. We will no longer host a parade at that time. An informational letter was sent home last Friday, which can also be found HERE that contains more details. We are very excited to be able to provide this opportunity for our Forever Falcons!
I cannot believe we are starting June. This school year has just flown by. From now until our last day of school on Friday June 18th, we are encouraging our students to finish strong. This has been an incredibly challenging year. There are only a few days left, you can do it Falcons!
Please make sure to read through the textbook and Chromebook return process for all virtual and on-campus students. We have a very busy next three weeks coming up!
Tomorrow is Memorial Day. This is a day where we remember the brave men and women who courageously gave their lives to protect all that we hold dear. I would encourage your family to take time tomorrow to share with your student the significance and importance of Memorial Day. I appreciate those of you who have served or have family members who have served. Please join us as we remember and honor our heroes.

California School Parent Survey 2020-2021
Poway Unified School District is conducting a survey of parents as part of our school and district continuous improvement process. Additionally, the results are used to meet the requirements of the state mandated Local Control Accountability Plan(LCAP). We value parent input greatly and appreciate your participation in the short survey. This survey is specific to our school and will be used for site and district input. The Parent survey is aligned with the state mandated California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) taken by the 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th grade students and the PUSD Staff Survey also to be conducted this month. PUSD will be using these student, staff and parent surveys to gain a better understanding of the parents’ view of our school and how we can best support our students and PUSD families. The attached document provides some additional information and the link for you to access the survey. We are asking parents to please complete this survey no later than June 4, 2021.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCESSING THE SURVEY
If you have more than one child at this school, you will only need to complete one survey for this school. Please fill out just one survey about the school using your oldest child as a reference.
You can access the survey using the following URL HERE.
For more information, we have a resource page that you can find HERE.
Help! We Need Water!
If you would like to donate a case of water to help those students who forget or who need a refill, please drop one off at the Welcome Center any time during the week.

Face Covering Reminder
Dear PUSD Families,
California has made amazing progress in the fight against COVID-19. According to the California Health and Human Services Agency: with more than 34 million vaccines administered, our state has among the lowest case and positivity rates in the nation. With your help, we have reopened our schools, kept them open, and prevented the spread of COVID-19.
On Monday, May 17, the Health and Human Services Secretary, Dr. Mark Ghaly, made this statement that the state will not be changing its face covering guidance to align with the new CDC recommendations for vaccinated people at this time. As a result, face coverings are still required in all PUSD office spaces and learning and teaching spaces in our schools and classrooms, including outdoor spaces (except when eating/drinking).
Dr. Ghaly also stated that on June 15, California plans to implement the CDC’s guidelines around masking to allow fully vaccinated Californians to go without a mask in most indoor settings. We have not received clarification yet on how this will apply to school and office settings.
To reiterate, until June 15, when California plans to fully reopen the economy, California will keep its existing guidance around masks in place. Thus, nothing will change for PUSD until June 15th, at the earliest. If more specific guidance is released for our schools and offices, we will share that with you. Thank you for adhering to the most current requirements for use of face coverings to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all staff and students.
Thank you,
The Poway Unified School District

We will return to our normal morning drop off route now that we are no longer taking temperatures.
On-Campus Students Reminders
For our families that are returning to campus. Please read over our Reopening Plan and Family Handbook carefully. There is lots of important information and reminders in those documents. All on-campus students must return a signed PUSD Health and Safety Agreement in order to be on campus. This form can be found HERE. We will be collecting these forms as students are dropped off and will have blank copies available in the Welcome Center if families need.
Here are some key reminders:
1. Please make sure you return the PUSD Health and Safety Agreement Form when you drop off your student. You can find the form HERE.
2. All students must come to school each day with a fully charged Chromebook.
3. All students will need to bring with them each day headphones, any needed school supplies, PE appropriate clothing (on the day they have PE), water bottle, independent reading book, and a packed lunch.
4. Students must wear a clean mask each day. We recommend bringing a second mask on the day they have PE.
5. Students who are on campus will go to their connections teacher for both connections and office hours. They will be able to zoom into to any classroom to ask questions. Students can also use this time to finish up work.

Please look at both of these documents closely.

For Students:
· Review and preview work from the week to deepen learning
