The Marie Murphy Update
17 April 2020 Edition
(SEL)ect Learning Day on April 20
Marie Murphy students will be invited to join a Google Meet or Zoom with their first period core teacher. The class will be co-taught with an allied arts, PE, world language or support teacher. The students and the teachers will engage in a 20-30 minute activity focused around an SEL topic. For April 20, the focus of all Marie Murphy students will be Decision Making & Responsible Behaviors. Once the opening activity is completed, students will be presented with a variety of activities to complete during the day, all focused around decision making and responsible behaviors. Students will submit evidence their reflections and work to their first period teacher.
If we continue to be out of school, additional SELect Learning Days will take place focused around the topics of Self-Awareness & Self-Management, Social Awareness & Relationship Skills, and Celebrating Diversity & Global Connections.

Lunches For Families In Need
Avoca is working with our food service provider, Quest Food Services and the Illinois State Board of Education to provide free lunches for students in families in need. Pick up will be at Marie Murphy School at 2921 Illinois Road, Wilmette, IL 60091 between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Cars can pull up in front of the school and the Quest food service staff will come out to bring you the lunches. Lunches will include a sandwich, fruit, vegetable and milk.
We have scheduled the following days for pick-ups:
- Monday, April 20
- Wednesday, April 22
- Students will receive two lunches on Monday and three lunches on Wednesday.
If you are interested in participating in the program, please click here to complete a quick form so we are prepared with enough lunches for everyone. If you have more than one student in our district, you can list all of their names on one form. The district has to report to the state how many lunches were given to currently approved free lunch students and how many were given to other students in need. We do not report names, only numbers.
Avoca was notified that New Trier Township has a pre-packed bag of food, a small bag of paper goods and laundry detergent that is available every other week to families experiencing financial hardship. If you are interested in this program, please contact Brian Leverenz at 847-446-8203.
