October 3, 2022
Last week we completed our lockdown drill. The month also included a Safe Haven drill, a fire drill, and an emergency medical drill. Students were well prepared for the drill by their teachers and did well following safety procedures during the drill. Going forward, we'll practice fire drills monthly as well as another emergency medical drill and safety drill later in the school year. We let our students know we practice so we are prepared; these drill have helped us to be better prepared as a school community.
Yours in education,
Bridget

KINDNESS SPIRIT WEEK
As previously shared, today is the World Day of Bullying Prevention! On this day students, schools, and communities all over the world go BLUE together against bullying. In the spirit of being kind and bringing awareness to bullying prevention, check out our Kindness Spirit Week this week!!
You'll notice that Wednesday is "Hats off to Upstanders" day and you may be wondering what an upstander is! While a bystander is someone who sees someone being unkind and doesn't know what to do or doesn't do anything, an upstander is someone who stands up for others! There are many ways to be an upstander including being a buddy, speaking out, and telling an adult. Students will learn more about being an upstander this week!
Students may also learn about the 4 kinds of conflict in which they can be upstanders!
- Disagreement: When people have different ideas about something; usually no one's feelings are hurt (e.g., which TV show is better, what the best pizza topping is)
- Rude Moment: Hurting someone's body or feelings ON ACCIDENT; someone isn't being careful with their body or isn't thinking about the other person (e.g., interrupting, not sharing supplies, skipping in line, bumping into someone on the playground)
- Mean Moment: Hurting someone's body or feelings ON PURPOSE; happens just one time or every once in a while (e.g., telling someone they can't play with you, calling someone a name)
- Bullying: Hurting someone's body or feelings ON PURPOSE; happens MORE THAN ONCE; the person doing the hurting has MORE POWER- older/bigger, more than one person, afraid of them (e.g., getting other students to be be mean to someone or leaving them out consistently, threatening someone consistently)

FORTE THEATRE PRESENTS: THE SOUND OF MUSIC
The hills are alive with the sound of music! Join Forte Theatre Company for their mainstage debut at the Saber Center - and one of the most beloved musicals of all time. In Austria, 1938, an exuberant young governess brings music and joy back to a broken family, only to face danger and intrigue as the Nazis gain power. With music and lyrics by Rodgers & Hammerstein, a cast of some of Milwaukee's top professional talent and FPS students playing some of the VonTrapp children, this is a theatrical experience not to be missed!
