The LMS Lowdown

December 18, 2020

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

I want to take this time to offer you all a happy and safe holiday season. It is extremely obvious to point out that 2020 has not gone as any of us would have hoped. Look at this picture below. It is our annual 8th grade picture taken about this time last year. How the world has changed since that picture was taken. This time last year, not many of us had ever heard of coronavirus, but we sure know now. However, I plan to focus on the positive and I have hope for a great 2021. The news has been dominated by the stories of various vaccines and I look forward to a time, I hope very soon, when we return to the joys of our normal life and we get to welcome the full student body back to LMS. Have a great New Year and we will see you with the next LMS Lowdown on 1/15/2021

SCHOOL PICTURES

FRUSTRATING!!! I have been in touch with the picture company and they hope to have them out to us ASAP. If we get them in before the holiday, we will arrange to have pick up availability. Please be on the lookout for a separate email if this is the case. Sorry :-(

SAVE THE DATE, JANUARY 7th: VIRTUAL PARENT WORKSHOP, SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING TOOLS FOR PARENTS

Our counseling department has organized a live virtual parent workshop on social emotional learning. The workshop is hosted by Box out Bullying and is called "SEL Tools for Parents". The workshop will take place on January 7, 2021. Discover how to use certain solution-focused techniques, the Peace Table, that will have an immediate impact on a child's behavior, achievement, and social emotional intelligence. There will be an opportunity to ask questions. We will get additional information about the time and log in access when we get closer. We hope to see you there!

REMOTE LEARNING

As you know, the spike in COVID-19 cases has caused us to move from hybrid instruction to fully remote. As of now, the plan is to return to hybrid instruction on January 19th. Until then, all students will follow their regular school schedule Monday-Friday for classes. I am asking for your help in ensuring your children log in to their classes and complete their assignments. This is far from perfect, but our teachers are delivering quality lessons every day and the students can learn. However, they need to be in class. One thing that I have suggested is to have the students set up alarms on their phones that go off five minutes before classes start as a reminder to log in. Thank you in advance for your help. The teachers, counselors and administrators of LMS are here to help in any way we can. Together, we can make this imperfect situation work in the best interest of our students.
