AdvancED Accreditation Visit
AdvancED is an organization that conducts on-site external reviews of Pre-K-12 schools and school systems to ensure that all learners realize their full potential. The goal of AdvancED is to help school systems improve. Since the last accreditation in Collier County five years ago, the district and schools have become more aligned in their processes. The district has designed and supported a systemic approach at all levels.
On Tuesday, the AdvancED team will conduct a review at the district level and at schools in Immokalee, interview principals of schools that aren’t selected for a visit and parents from every school. Our parent representatives are Renee Wild and Diana Gutierrez. Both parents represent our school on the SAC committee.
The AdvancED teams will then visit 18 schools on Wednesday. We are one of the fortunate few who have the opportunity to show off what we do to support students. We will begin the morning presenting a PPT that highlights our students and school, answering questions surrounding the artifacts that have been submitted as evidence pieces and sharing strengths and areas of growth from the student, parent and staff surveys at the end of last year. Afterwards, the two AdvancEd team members, Dr. Davis and Dr. Cook, will embark on classroom visits at both LWTHS and LWTC (dual enrollment). During the classroom visits they will be utilizing the Effective Learning Environments Observation Tool (ELEOT) to determine if the district-wide initiatives and processes established are systemic. There are seven student-focused observation evidences that will be looked for; equitable learning environment, high expectations environment, supportive learning environment, active learning environment, progress monitoring and feedback environment, well-managed learning environment and digital learning environment. The ELEOT document has been sent out as an attachment by Mark. The AdvancEd team will be asking students and teachers questions* regarding the ELEOT tool and school-wide systems that are in place that help support the ELEOT. It has been suggested from the district that key pieces of evidence are learning goals and scales, student engagement, technology usage and safe and effective learning atmosphere. Please make sure that your classroom has the learning goal and lesson specific scales are posted and referenced as appropriate. The interview team will more than likely be asking about our "Purpose" statement. The "Purpose" and Mission statement are synonymous. Our Mission/Purpose statement is shared with all staff and parents each month via the Mustang Message Parent Newsletter. Our Mission/Purpose statement is "To create the ultimate career and college preparatory education program for all students to acquire skills for life." The Mission/Purpose statement is reviewed as a staff and through SAC each year to determine if it still meets the needs of what we are trying to accomplish.
*Please reference the pictures below for a listing of sample questions for school staff.
On Thursday, the AdvancED team will put everything together and present the findings of the visit at the district office in the board room from 2:00-3:00 p.m. We will learn as a district what we are doing well and areas for growth. It is an exciting process to go through. Everyone has worked diligently to make sure that the visit goes a smoothly as possible. Thank you for all of your collaboration as we have spent the better part of a year going through the process.
