Prestons Post
Term 2, Week 3
Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 3 newsletter. Apologies for the delay in publishing our newsletter from Week 3. Our staff and students have been working and playing hard and there has been some great learning so far this term. We are having a big focus on mathematics this year and it is very impressive to see our students thinking mathematically in their maths lessons.
School Uniform
As the weather starts to cool down we are seeing a great number of jumpers in our lost property. Please remember to label your child's clothing so that we can return it to them. If your child has lost any items of clothing (in particular jumpers, jackets and hats) please use Seesaw to contact your child's teacher. All classes have a growing pile of lost property with no names. Please ensure that your child comes to school in their full school uniform each day, coloured jumpers and black tights are not a part of our school uniform and should not be worn to school. If you require assistance with purchasing any uniform items please contact our office. We also have a stock of second hand uniforms available. Students who are leaving our school for an excursion or sport must have full school uniform on to be permitted to get on the bus. This is a very important for student safety.
School Hats
All students at Prestons must have a school hat. We have a no hat play in the shade policy. If you do need to purchase a new school hat for your child they are available from the front office for $7.00.
Rugby League Superstars
Congratulations to our amazing rugby league superstars, Joseph, William and Faifua who played in the Liverpool zone U/11 rugby league team and Patmos and Noah who played in the Liverpool zone 12yo rugby league team. Both teams played recently at the zone carnivals and both teams won the final on the day. We certainly have some future rugby league superstars at Prestons.
Mother's Day
We hope that all of our mums and loved ones had a great Mother's day on Sunday. Thank you to our amazing P&C who organised a fabulous stall for our students to purchase gifts for their loved ones. I am sure that all of our mums and loved ones felt very spoiled on Sunday. We also loved having our families join us on Thursday for a macaroon breakfast for mother's day.
Behaviour Code for all Students.
We are currently reviewing our behaviour policy and anti bullying policy. These will be discussed with our parliament students, teachers and families at P&C on Thursday. Our policy reflects the inclusive, engaging and respectful behaviour reform and is also underpinned by the behaviour code for students which is attached below. We would love your input and would love to see you at P&C this Thursday 18th May, from 8.30 am to 9.30 am to help us to finalise this important document.
Student Safety
This is an important reminder to all of our families about student safety. Every child has the right to feel safe and happy at school. Under no circumstances should any adult approach another child about incidents that happen at school. Violent and aggressive behaviour is never ok and will not be tolerated on school grounds. Incidents where adults approach other children and make them feel unsafe can result in an enclosed lands act being issued by the police. If you have any issues regarding another student at our school please contact myself or one of our deputy principals, we will deal with your concerns. Thank you for your ongoing support in helping to ensure our students always feel safe and happy at school.
Our Prestons Pride team are meeting to plan the next phase in our learner quality lessons.
Passion Projects are great fun - today we made this delicious dessert.
Mrs Kinniburgh and the Possums had a wonderful day today.

Opportunity Class Applications - Applications Close Monday 15th May, 2023
Opportunity classes are for primary school students who have high academic potential or who are intellectually gifted.
They provide an environment where students can learn and make friends with classmates of similar ability. This can benefit a student’s academic progress and also their wellbeing.
Opportunity classes are offered in Years 5 and 6, with parents/carers applying in Year 4.
Students who are successfully placed will usually have to leave their current school to enrol in a school with an opportunity class for Years 5 and 6.
Opportunity classes are just one of the ways that we cater for our high potential and gifted students.
Testing and assessment
Applications for opportunity class placement are considered on the results of the Opportunity Class Placement Test. Students who wish to be considered for placement are required to sit the Opportunity Class Placement Test on Thursday 27 July 2023.
How to apply
Parents/carers must apply online between Thursday 30 March and Monday 15 May 2023 at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/oc.
You must use your own email address and not one belonging to your child. Late applications are not usually accepted.
If you do not have internet access you can apply at a public library or at your child’s school. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Unit for assistance after 30 March 2023.
You must submit only ONE application for each student.
Classroom Chat with 2 Elephants
2 Elephants were so excited to participate in the Cross Country Carnival and enjoyed cheering on our friends.
In mathematics, we have been investigating place value and have been developing our number sense through a range of hands-on activities.
We are working hard to develop our fundamental movement skills through the new Athletics programs.
2 Elephants are excited to learn more about our new learner qualities and have demonstrated curiosity in our learning. We have been exploring digital technologies and have been developing our typing proficiency throughout the term, with the help of our Year 5 buddies.
2 Elephants have loved being authors, artists, athletes, mathematicians, readers, scientists, dancers and critical thinkers, and cannot wait to see what challenges await us.

Sentral Parent App
Our school has made the decision to change the way we communicate with parents.
Sentral, the schools School Management System has a Parent communications app. We are now using this Parent Application.
You are able to do the following:
* receive real-time notifications and messages from the school or your child’s classroom teacher.
* view academic reports
* submit student absences
* view calendar events
* book parent/teacher interviews
* view school information and permission notes
* receive sick bay notifications
* view newsletters
Please download the Sentral for Parent App (via the App store or Google Play store) Search: Prestons Public School.
information on how to download the application is attached.
We require all families to register for the Sentral for Parents app as we have stopped using other communication apps such as Skoolbag and Sentral for Parents will be a one stop shop for all communications.
Please be patient with the school staff as we work through any teething problems and adjust to the new system.
You should have received a paper notice and email with your child’s ‘access key’ listed on it which will allow you direct access to your child’s profile.
If you have questions about using the app, or need some extra help then please browse the list of FAQs at https://info.sentral.com.au/new-app-getting-started or contact us for assistance.
