Centennial Elementary
March 2018
Letter from the Principal
Dear Centennial Families,
We continue to see unsafe driving practices during morning drop-off and afternoon pick up.
1. Ventura is NOT a carpool lane. Dropping your children off on the curb is not safe. Additionally, the added traffic on Ventura impedes those who are using the carpool from exiting school property in an efficient stream of traffic. If you would like to park and walk your child to the door, please feel free to park on Ventura or use the south parking lot, otherwise, we ask that you use the carpool lane.
2. It is illegal to use your cell phone in a school zone. This includes the carpool lane.
3. PEDESTRIAN RIGHT-OF-WAY AT CROSSWALK. We strongly encourage that traffic stops for any pedestrian in the crosswalk regardless of which half of the road the vehicle is traveling. Many of our students walk unattended and we have no crossing guard.
Your child’s safety is our number one concern; however, it takes all adults practicing safe habits to ensure the safe arrival and dismissal of our students.
If you see something unsafe, such as traffic violations, happening on the streets around Centennial, please call the Plano Traffic Hotline at (972) 941-5483.
Kind Regards,
Sara Stewart & Leigh Ann Earnhart

RECYCLING SHOES AND CLOTHING NEVER MADE MORE CENTS
Be a part of diverting thousands of pounds of shoes and clothing from local landfills by filling our shoes and clothing donation bin with your gently used shoes, clothing, purses, belts, wallets, hats, caps, backpacks, hard toys, stuffed animals and pots and pans. For every pound collected from you, our school receives $0.15 per pound. The benefit to you? Neater closets, drawers, toy boxes, and kitchens, and the knowledge that less textile waste will end up in our local landfills.

STAAR Testing
April STAAR Testing
4th and 5th grade students at Centennial will be taking the STAAR test the week of April 9th. Since this is a secure test, it is imperative that only trained test administrators are in the building on these days. In order to maintain the integrity of the testing environment and ensure that it is uninterrupted for our students, we will not be able to allow any parents or volunteers in the building on any STAAR testing weeks.
For 4th and 5th grade parents: More information will be coming regarding these test days. For now, we ask that you schedule all doctor, dental, lunch, etc. appointments accordingly. It is also very important that your child arrives at school on time as testing will begin first thing in the morning if he or she is involved in testing. We thank you in advance for your support!
