First, a big welcome to all of our new students who are starting or continuing their educational journey at Kingsford School. We wish you all the very best as you become part of the Kingsford whanau.
Reminder: Teacher Only Days Next Week
There will be no school for students on Thursday or Friday next week
Thursday 10th March and Friday 11th March will be teacher only days here at school. This means there will be no school for children on those days. Please take note of these dates so you can make arrangements for the care of your children. School will not be open or available to care for your children.
Our Newsletter is Going Digital!
If you would like to continue to receive a hard copy of our newsletter, please email the office office@kingsford.school.nz or call us on 275 9447 and we will make sure one is given to your eldest attending child each fortnight.
COVID-19 Update
We continue to have a number of processes in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Our main preventative strategy is in the wearing of masks. While our Year 4, 5 and 6 tamariki are required to wear masks, we are highly recommending that all children do wear masks. Child-sized masks are available at the school gate and in the classroom for those Year 1, 2 and 3 students who would like to wear one.
We continue to ensure our class spaces are well ventilated, with our caretaker regularly testing these environments with the CO2 monitor provided to us by the Ministry of Education. Classes continue to be separated, ensuring students from different classes are not mixing with others while indoors. All classes have hand sanitiser, along with a cleaning kit to maintain sanitisation of shared surfaces.
Rose and I, along with Grace (our Mana Kids nurse) and Felisha (our SWIS) continue to greet children at the gate as part of our daily health check. Teachers also monitor children through the day for symptoms. Feedback I have received from the Ministry of Education confirms that the procedures we have in place are at an optimal level.
We ask whanau that if their child, or any other member of their household has any COVID symptoms, particularly a headache, scratchy throat, runny nose, or an upset stomach, that you please keep them home and get a COVID-19 test as soon as possible.
Please remember to let us know if you are keeping your child home – you can do this via our school app, or by leaving a message on our school voice mail.
When should COVID-19 cases and contacts end their isolation?
As you know, a person confirmed to have COVID-19 must currently isolate for a minimum of 10 days and until they are symptom-free. If they are still sick, they should stay home until they are well. Day zero for isolation is from the date they either developed symptoms or were tested if they do not have symptoms. The case does not need to have any further tests after their initial confirmation test (they have already tested positive).
Household contacts of someone with COVID-19
Any household contacts of the positive case must also isolate for 10 days and take tests on day three and 10 of the case’s isolation period. If a household contact tests negative on day three and day 10 and is symptom free, they can return to school on day 11. A reminder that if someone else in the house tests positive, you do not need to restart your 10 days unless you have tested positive.
Casual Vacancy on our Board of Trustees
The board has decided to fill this vacancy by selection. If 10% or more of eligible voters on the school roll as the board, within 28 days of this notice first being published, to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held.
Request for a by-election should be sent to:

Hybrid Learning
an educational approach in which schools (not necessarily the same teacher) provide a learning programme that is delivered in a variety of ways, i.e., the same learning delivered either remotely or onsite in either digital or paper based form, or a combination of the two.
When a class moves to hybrid learning, all children move to this learning approach regardless of whether they are at school or at home. We will let you know if and when your child's class moves into their hybrid learning program.
Hats and Waterbottles
A reminder to please make sure your child has a hat and a water bottle each day.
As part of our COVID-19 safety plan, students are spending more of their learning time outside, so a hat is a definite need. Also, as our drinking fountains are also out of use due to COVID, students will need a named drink bottle for their water.
Kairanga Road Entrance
We are recommending that those whanau who drive their children to school use the Kairanga Gate entrance. At this entrance, you can drive up to the gate and let your children out safely, and then continue on your journey.
We have a number of whanau who are parking in unsafe places, including on the yellow lines (in spite of the cones being there), across or in our neighbour's driveways, or even stopping on the pedestrian crossing to let their children out. Please consider the safety of all of our children during drop off and pick up times.
