The Tiger Times
Week of October 23 through October 27
Hello Tiger Family!
and Happy Sunday!
A friend of mine who is also a principal shared this video with me and WOW!
Patrick Biggs was last year's keynote speaker at the 2016 AVID Conference. AVID is a program we implement here in GCISD (remember the young lady in the GCISD Student Voice video speaking about AVID? She and her dad were introduced at Convocation) At it's core, AVID is a opportunity-gap closer. So many of the things he speaks to in this keynote reflects in the work we do every day with our kiddos. It was at 9:13, though, that each of your faces came to mind because you do this. Every day.
There are people that see the challenge in some of our students. They see where they live and what they do or don't have...some of their behaviors and the choices some of them make, of course, because those are easy to see. Anyone can see those things. Anyone can see "these kids".
But our staff? We see more. You see the promise, the potential, the hopes, the worries, the dreams in every child you get to teach. You see value and you see worth in every single one of them. And that? That changes lives.
So here is to a week of
unrolling,
flattening,
fixing corners,
and believing with all of our heart that
it'll go in the Coke machine

Nuts and Bolts is our "virtual faculty meeting". Please read all information carefully and reach out if you have any questions or need clarification.
Family Communication Google Form
1st grade brought up a good reminder about our form. When you (or team or you and your teaching partner) made a copy of the form to use, you got the ability to change permissions for who could access it. The entire staff had access to the original form in order to make a copy. You want to double check that only those with an educational need to know have viewing rights to your spreadsheet. Be sure to include administrators, counselors, nurse and any appropriate SPED team members. If you need any help at all, Stuart, Audra, or I can help…just let us know!
Student-Led Conferences
Please make sure you are talking as a team about upcoming student-led conferences. Because we have new staff members, we want to make sure they are aware of what this looks and sounds like. It is also important to review with students, too! Quick notes:
- There isn’t a specific form that is used for conferences; whatever your team uses is fine.
- Students should share their leadership notebooks during the conference.
- Keep individual conference forms as these have to be turned in as part of Title I and CIP documentation.
- If you plan to schedule “group conferences”, please touch base with me prior to your conferences starting.
Principal Silent Auction Items
This Friday October 27th is last call for grades to submit their idea for Taste of Timberline Principal activity silent auction item. Thank you to 1st grade and 5th grade for already getting theirs in. A special thank you to 5th for making sure “Shave Ms. Ingram’s Eyebrows” didn’t win. LOL!!
Strive Goals and T-TESS
This past week, you received directions for how to roll your T-TESS Goals over to Strive, the district’s new appraisal application in Eduphoria https://eduphoria.gcisd.net/authdistrict/login. The rollover needs to be completed before October 27th end of conference so I can submit any problems to HR Friday at end of day. Thanks to everyone who has already done this!! Additional reminders about T-TESS:
- Be sure to complete the T-TESS lesson planning form and share with your T-TESS coach prior to your pre-conference.
- Then self-evaluate your lesson in Domains 2 and 3 prior to meeting for your post-conference.
Campus Representatives
United Way Campaign: The 2017-2018 United Way Campaign will begin on October 30-November 10. GCISD, in partnership with United Way of Tarrant County, has designed a new online pledge system this year. Each employee will receive a Kick-Off email on October 30 with all the information they’ll need to participate. Carrie Becker will reach out to each of the coordinators before October 30 with additional information. If you have not had the opportunity to serve for Timberline on a committee or as a representative yet, please consider this and let me know. If I haven’t heard back by Monday during Tiger U, we can figure it out then. The Monday deadline is a district deadline I received Friday.
Jeans
Reminder that Fridays and Tiger U Mondays are jeans with a TES shirt…any year is fine!
You only use a Jeans Pass if you wear jeans any other time.
Unless it's Red Ribbon Week!! Then you can wear jeans if you're participating. So if you wear sunglasses Tuesday, wear jeans! If you wear a hat Wednesday, wear jeans! If you....I think you see the pattern :D
