September Parent Events
Family Education Night: Wednesday, September 21st
For our kickoff Family Education Night we will have the following sessions from 6-8pm at Reed Elementary School:
AAC: Does your child communicate with an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device or are you interested in learning more? Do you have questions about assistive technology tools for your child? Come meet with your Leander ISD Assistive Technology Team, Cici Fritts and Candace Hayden! We will have a brief overview of our services and basic tips to support your AAC user at home and in the community, with plenty of time for Q&A!
Student Involvement in their Meetings: ARD and 504 meetings are opportunities for teams to collaboratively come together and discuss the needs of your student. Your student should be included in them! We will discuss different strategies for preparing your child to be a voice in their meetings.
Connecting Transition from Ages 3-22: Our transition team will address the continuum of resources critical in preparing LISD students and families for life after exiting the public school system and beyond.
Autism Parent Education - We will be hosting a brief introductory overview of Autism, common characteristics, misconceptions and strategies. Come ready to learn more about Autism best practices and other informational topics that will be covered this school year. This course will meet all together for September and aims to meet the needs of learners ages 3-21 in LISD through the 2022-2023 Innovative Services for Student with Autism Grant. Some courses throughout the year will be broken up into separate sessions for early learners (elementary school age) and for secondary students (middle, high and 18+) to ensure needs of all students and families are met.
