Principal's Message
Hello Pride,
We only have two weeks left until spring break. Then it is a long 9 week run to the end of school and graduation. Please be mindful of student grades. Any make up work should be completed this week and turned in to the teacher. This allows them time to try and have it graded prior to the input of grades. Students who are currently failing in english, math or biology are encoraged to look for the email that invited them to the intersession make up period that will allow them to bring their grade to a D. Intersession is the second week of spring break and requires attendance everyday.
One of the things we are finding is that our students seem to think they are very busy and some of them are. However, most of them say they are busy but cannot tell us what they are doing. Slome of them are busy, but they are not using time wisely or correctly. Many of them tell us they are up late playing video games, texting with friends or on social media. Please, Please, Please help us by monitoring your student and what they are doing. You will hear me say it again and again - they need you to help them determine what is important and how to structure their time.
Thanks for all you do, please come support our students in all they do in sports and the arts. The next Wildcat Press will be March 26.
Have a great week and spring break!!

Fighting
We have seen an uptick in students trying to settle their conflicts physically. They are planning and posting when and where they are going to fight to draw a crowd. Please be aware that students caught fighting for any reason will be suspended for 10 days. Students who are attending fights to watch and video will also recieve consequences up to and including suspension. Please have a conversation seiht your student and remind them that fighting is not how we settle our disputes. Students who are having conflict are encouraged to seek out a trusted teacher, counselor or adminsitrator for mediation and help.

Up Coming State Testing
As we head into Spring Break, there are some dates that you need to be aware of so that you can plan accordingly.
For our 11th grade students, the state has determined that they will need to take two different major exams.
- One is AZ Sci, which is a science exam. All 11th graders, whether they have a science class or not will need to take this exam. At MHS, the test will be given on March 30th. Students will have 3 hours to complete this exam. We will be running two different time sessions. The session your student is scheduled to be in will be posted in three different locations on March 27th: The Den courtyard windows, the G courtyard windows and the B courtyard windows. If they have a science class, their teacher will be able to tell them as well. Adjustments for attendance to EVIT has been made, they will not miss getting to their EVIT courses.
- The second test is the ACT, which will be taken on April 4th. Our 11th grade population will arrive at normal time to be able to start the exam at 7:30 am. For anyone else, school will be a half-day. Buses will run again exactly 4 hours later to pick up the students who did not test.
For our 9th grade population, the state exam is the ACT Aspire, which is an exam that has ACT like qualities but is geared towards their age and grade level. It will be given on April 11th. This assessment provides data that is used to determine if their is growth from their freshman year to their junior year when they take the ACT. Like the ACT this day will be a half-day for all non-testers.
Please be on the look-out for updates. We will be providing more details with specific bell schedules in the near future.
