Vision 2031 Survey - we need your voice!
We recently sent Hopkins parents a Vision 2031 survey and are pleased to have received 424 responses. If you have not yet completed the survey, we'd like YOUR input! Thank you for taking 15 minutes to complete this Moving From Exploration To Design survey.
Background Info: Vision 2031 is a collective vision. We are all in this together. We want to be transparent and accountable with how we make decisions and communicate our plans for change, based on input from you. We have taken time to review and move forward many recommendations that came from the November 2018 Vision 2031 Strategic Focus Teams (SFTs). Follow this link to read a detailed update about all of the exciting things we have done since last November.
To be even more strategic and community-focused, we need additional input on a few specific, more bold recommendations. Thank you for taking 15 minutes to complete this Vision 2031 Moving From Exploration To Design survey.
Inclement Weather Policy
With a layer of snow officially on the ground, now is a good time to review our inclement weather policy. In the event that we close school due to weather or other emergencies, our Connect-ED messaging system is our primary notification tool. Secondary information sources include the District’s homepage, our school's homepage, Facebook (facebook.com/HopkinsPublicSchools), Twitter (@Hopkins270), and television stations such as WCCO, KSTP, KMSP, and KARE.
When making a decision to close schools for the day, start schools late, or dismiss schools early, we factor in existing and predicted weather conditions as well as road conditions to determine the overall safety of our students and staff. We will notify parents/caregivers of a two-hour late start or full-day school closure as soon as we feel confident in our ability to make that decision. Ideally this would be the night before, no later than 9:30 p.m. If we don’t have enough information to make the decision the night before, we will notify parents no later than 5:30 a.m. the day of. Early dismissal from school will be announced approximately one hour before dismissal.

Girls on the Run
For the past 2 years we have enjoyed an engaged Girls on the Run (GOTR) team here at Glen Lake. Girls on the Run is a national, social/emotional, self esteem, life skill and running program that runs for 10 weeks, starting the week of March 16. We have practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm-5:00pm here at Glen Lake.
WE NEED COACHES! (Coaching applications open December 10)
We need at least 3 coaches, committed to coaching the full program in order to have a team at Glen Lake. Daughters of coaches are guaranteed a spot on the GOTR team.
Coaches are volunteers and trained by GOTR. Coaching is a great way to mentor girls at a critical stage in their development, reflect on your own life skills and workout (by walking or running). Plus you get to attend a huge running party and 5K at the end of the season and receive a flashy T-Shirt identifying you as coach!

Crayon initiative
The Hopkins High School Student Council is completing a community service project this fall. They are partnering with The Crayon Initiative to recycle crayons and donate newly formed crayons to hospitals across the country. Their crayons will be donated to Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, Gillette Children’s, HCMC, St. Cloud Women and Children’s Center, and University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital.
Glen Lake Elementary is partnering with the student council to collect the used crayons that normally go in the trash or are unused. Collection boxes will be in the office and in the main entry way. So start checking those desk drawers for old crayons and bring them in!
