February Highlights

Our focus in February will be a nonfiction unit on the Inuit. We will be reading and researching as we identify the differences between fiction and non-fiction. We will continue to share books in our reading groups and work on our sight words and word families.

We will continue to work on "How to" books. Along with the childrens' original ideas, we will be writing "How to" books that relate to different aspects of the Inuit culture.

In math we will start our unit on measurement , weight, and capacity. We will focus on numbers up to twenty.

We will begin the study of our telephone numbers and move on to our addresses. As we read and learn about the Inuit, we will be comparing their lifestyle to ours. We will also be exploring maps; starting with the layout of our bedrooms and moving on to reading and finding locations on a map.

* NO SHOW AND SHARE IN FEBRUARY - Show and Share will resume in March
* If you choose to send Valentine's Day cards into school, please make sure to send one for each child. This avoids hurt feelings.
* Please continue to send in snow clothes for those snowy days when we are able to go outside (conditions permitting). PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING!
* Please make sure your child has an extra set of clothes that is appropriate for the season.
* We will be celebrating our 100th day of school in February.
* We will be talking about Chinese New Year.
