2021-2022 and 2022-2023 School Year Calendars
Last month the School Board adopted calendars for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years. Monday, August 9, will be the first day of school for 2021-22, with the last day being May 26, the Thursday before Memorial Day.
Similarly, the first day of school for 2022-23 will be August 8 and the last day is May 25. Both calendars have dedicated time off for students and staff, including a week for Thanksgiving Break, two weeks for Winter Break, and one week for Spring Break.
The approved calendars can be viewed here: 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.
School Governance Council (SGC) Elections
It is time for the election of new members to our School Governance Council. The School Governance Council has both parent/guardian and teacher positions open for election. Parents or guardians of students who will be attending our school during both the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years are eligible to run for the parent/guardian SGC positions. Our School Governance Council (SGC) plays a critical role in the success of our school. The SGC works with school leadership and the community to help determine the long-term direction of the school, design innovative solutions to increase academic achievement, and serve as school ambassadors to the local community.
Specifically, the School Governance Council has the following powers:
- Create, approve, and monitor the implementation of the school strategic plan
- Manage the Request for Flexibility process
- Approve the annual budget recommendations and related allocations
- Participate in the hiring of the principal, in the case of a vacancy
- Provide annual feedback to the Area Superintendent on principal performance
If you are interested in running for a position on the School Governance Council, please complete and submit a Parent/Guardian Candidate Declaration Form. Click here to access the form. We are very excited about the work and value-add of our SGC. We hope that you will consider running for a position! The Candidate Declaration period ends February 26th and voting in the SGC occurs from March 17th - 24th. In the meantime, if you would like more information about the charter system or SGC elections visit the Charter System Website.

Learning Environment Hardship
For second semester, parents have made a 9-week commitment for the learning environment (face-to-face or remote learning) that works best for their family. However, unforeseen circumstances may warrant a change in the learning environment. If you experience a hardship or special circumstances and would like to change your student(s) learning environment at any time during the next nine weeks, you will need to email Ms. Boyd (boydn@fultonschools.org) and Ms. Poole (poole@fultonschools.org). You will be sent a Learning Environment Hardship form to complete that will need to be approved by both the principal and zone superintendent. Please remember that this process is for unforeseen circumstances and is not meant to be a regular practice.

PARENTS ARE A VALUABLE RESOURCE IN THE EDUCATION OF THEIR STUDENTS
As a parent, you are your child's first and most important teacher. When parents and families are involved in their children's schools, the children do better and have better feelings about going to school. In fact, many studies show that what the family does is more important to a child's school success than how much money the family makes or how much education the parents have. There are many ways that parents can support their children's learning at home and throughout the school year. Here are some ideas to get you started!
Twenty Ways You Can Help Your Child
SCHOOL REFUSAL: WHAT IT MEANS WHEN KIDS WON’T DO SCHOOLWORK.
When kids get stressed or are struggling, it is common for them to say they are not going to do their schoolwork. They may even say they are not going to school. But saying things like that is different from shutting down and not doing work or going to school. Note, this article is bilingual, but you must select ES on the upper right side of the screen.
