Ball Park Newsletter #15
December 14 - 18
Principal's Message
Dear Jackie Robinson K- 8 Community,
1. Our District sent out a notice on Friday: "Schools Closed to the Public Dec. 14-Jan. 3": This district notification was referred to any schools who were allowing visitors to come inside the office to conduct business. Our school has not. Our outdoor materials distributions are allowed to continue (next week for Grade. 2) We are also allowed to continue with meal distribution on Dec. 14, 16 and 18. Materials drop off/pick up outside the front office door.
What we will put a pause on is in person Chromebook support. You may still call the school and our staff will support you as best as possible over the phone.
If you have or have been exposed to someone with COVID please do not come to the school. Wearing a mask is required at all times.
2. Holiday Social/Emotional Wellness: See this idea sheet for anyone in your family who may find the holidays hard- https://docs.google.com/document/d/13liWZN1SG8rsAJiA13mvKx4r37eU633QqgUtpnQQQeQ/edit?usp=sharing.
3. Mental Health Issues related to our lockdown and the COVID pandemic are especially hard for people with depression and other mental health disorders. The National Alliance on Mental Illness has a 24 hour helpline: 800-950-6264.
4. Minimum Day and Winter Break: Friday, December 18 will be a minimum day dismissal for all students. There will be no school Dec. 21-Jan. 1. THERE WILL BE NO WORK FOR STUDENTS TO COMPLETE DURING THE BREAK.
5. Principal Zoom Meeting: I will be holding a Principal Zoom meeting this Wednesday, December 16 at 4:00pm. Our zoom meeting link will be shared that morning and one hour before our meeting. Please join me for some updates and an opportunity to win some prizes.
With appreciation for all of your support,
Salvador Madrigal
Principal
1. NO HABRÁ TRABAJO QUE LOS ESTUDIANTES DEBEN COMPLETAR DURANTE EL DESCANSO.

Neighbors, parents, and other members of the Robinson school community are invited to a briefing on the existing Measure E new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) project for Jackie Robinson K-8 Academy. Measure E improvements for HVAC and related work for Robinson Academy is scheduled to start in the summer of 2021.
Additional related work includes accessibility improvements, ceiling/lighting renovations, fire alarm upgrade, and utility infrastructure upgrades. This is possible due to voters’ approval November 2016 of the $1.5 billion school bond initiative, known as Measure E.
To learn more about how this project will affect your neighborhood and how we plan to minimize inconveniences related to parking, traffic and noise, tune in for this upcoming information session available on the LBUSD YouTube Channel beginning Friday, October 30th at LBschools.net/YouTube then go to Playlists and select Measure E.

Holiday Drive Please join our Holiday Drive efforts on December 14 & 15 and help us in making a difference in the lives of our youth. Please contribute. Master Schedule: Ths Monday, December 14 is M(alternating Monday) which means that students attend the Tuesday/Thursday electives and PE Class. (Este lunes 14 de deciembre es M (martes/jueves alternos) lo que significa que los estudiantes asisten a las clases electivas de martes/jueves y a la clase de educación física. Monday Calendar ATTENDANCE Research has shown that absences negatively impact a student’s education and reduce opportunities for success in school. As such, the District will monitor online participation on a daily basis and communicate with you if your child is absent from their online learning sessions. In addition, we will proactively work with you to identify and resolve any barriers to your child’s Participation. Please alert your teacher or call the Office if your student is our sick or can’t log for connectivity reason. Our Dolphins have 3 major responosibilites: engage in learning, complete assignments on time, and stay in touch with teachers. Parents can help too by: *Establishing a routine for bed time and for the morning for your child *Checking on your child’s attendance regularly (ParentVue) *Encouraging your child to log in to CANVAS account, participate and engage unless he/she is truly sick *Calling the school and provide notes when your child is absent *Communicate with your teacher or Office to report any technology problems. High School 8th grade parents: all 8th grade students have access to all high school information via the High School Choice Tile in their CANVAS Accounts. You can also visit the Ditcrict’s website and explore high school information. Check the link below.. Application is available in ParentVue on January 19, 2021
Summary of Meal Service Changes, Effective October 19, 2020
To improve meal services and support the needs of families in our community and our employees, Nutrition Services will make the following changes in meal distribution, effective October 19, 2020:
1. Grab and Go meals for two days at each pick-up – Students and parents/guardians may pick up two days’ worth of meals on alternate days instead of making the daily trips.
- Monday’s pick-up includes meals for Monday and Tuesday.
- Wednesday’s pick up is for Wednesday and Thursday.
- Friday and Saturday’s meals are available for pick-up on Friday.
This change is in support of social distancing and minimizes the exposure of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) for families and our frontline employees.
2. Four meal types will be available for each day: breakfast, lunch, snack, and supper at all service locations – Each recipient will receive eight meals as a unit.
3. Universal meal pick up period from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – This change streamlines the meal pick up period for all service locations regardless of grade levels and takes the guesswork out of parents on the meal pick up time, especially for parents with school age children in multiple grade levels.
4. Offer versus Serve for milk – This change allows recipients to decline milk or take only the quantity of milk that they desire to reduce waste.
Parents/guardians picking up meals without children present or picking up additional meals for children who stay at home must present documentation for verification. Nutrition Services Branch employees are expected to ask for the acceptable documents daily even if the parents/guardians have been visiting the same location. The acceptable documents include but are not limited to the following.
a. LBUSD student ID
b. Any student ID issued by any agencies
c. Benefit issuance letter showing children are part of the adult’s household:
§ Meal Eligibility Letter from LBUSD or any districts
§ Benefit issuance document from Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
d. Tax Returns
e. Birth Certificate
f. Any official documents showing children are part of the adult’s household
Any questions regarding meal services should be directed to Nutrition Services Branch at 562-427-7923. Thank you.
