The Weekly Word from CDS FP - May 27-May 31, 2019
Looking Back
Hello All,
Thank you to all the families who visited us for the FP Summer Concert and Art Exhibition! Much appreciated to the FP PTA for setting up a table of snacks for visiting parents. Thank you also to the PTA for their support of the birthday celebrations which took place on Friday.
Thank you to Woojoo’s mother and Chaeri’s father. They each visited the classroom this week to share their wealth of knowledge and experience with FP students. Woojoo’s mom shared about her fascinating work as a voice actor in Korean television and movies. Chaeri’s dad wowed his audience about working as an engineer in the space and airplane industry. Their audience of students (and teachers!) was captivated, and we cannot thank them enough for donating their time and effort to make lasting impressions on our students. You're amazing - thank you!
Our final week of school is upon us and what a wonderful year it has been! Please note that the final day of school for PKK123 is this Friday, and it is a half day. The final day for G4 is this Saturday.
On Friday, parents are invited to attend our Term 5 Assembly. Doors open to parents at 8:15am. Students should wear a white polo above the waist, and khaki colored pants, or skorts, or shorts below the waist (no PE uniforms!). This assembly, similar to last year, is a special one where we have our Dalton Arch Ceremony in addition to the regular agenda of our assembly.
Saturday is Graduation Day for G4, G8, and G12. Grade 4s and 8s celebrate together. Families are invited to attend the graduation ceremony in the Dalton Hall followed by a lunch to be shared in the Dalton Cafeteria. G4s are asked to be at school (FP) by 9am; however, the graduation ceremony begins at 10am in the Dalton Hall.
Educationally Yours,
Mr. Hill
Director of First Program
2019 2020 updates
As we wrap up the year, I wanted to share some updates with you regarding our teachers, as well as those who will newly join us for the 2019-2020 school year:
Ms. (Jennifer) Kim
Ms. Kim returns full time to FP. She taught in FP since day one of the school being established. For the last two years she has led the curriculum development in FP and MS. She now returns to FP to continue to develop our curriculum and more, as the FP Teaching and Learning Coordinator.
Ms. Bahr
After two years teaching first grade, we are excited for Ms. Bahr as she makes the transition to Grade 2. This will be familiar territory for Ms. Bahr as she has taught second previously in her teaching career.
Mr. Baker
After many years in FP, first as our ELL teacher, and later as our G4 teacher, Mr. Baker is not one to shy away from challenges. He now bravely transitions into CDS Middle School, where he will teach Grade 6 & 7 English.
Ms. Garcia
After two years teaching second grade in FP, she will be returning to her home country of the United States. We are sad to see Ms. Garcia departing, but happy for the lucky students who will be in her future classrooms.
Mr. Cool
Mr. Cool joins us in the fall to teach Grade 4. He has taught in the United States, and has also lived and taught in Seoul. A previous employer describes him as one who “aligns instruction on an individual basis with intense skill practice at a targeted level”. Also stated was that Mr. Cool’s “students have gained not only a new sense of confidence, but are showing incredible academic growth”.
Ms. Mahomed
Ms. Mahomed joins us from the United States to teach Grade 2. She has taught students in second, third, and fifth grade classrooms. Ms. Mahomed has knowledge of several languages: English, Urdu, Gujurati, Arabic, French, and Spanish. She shared with us that “having multiple lingual ways to define her world has led to an enriched life experience”, and “every new language she has been exposed to, has diversified her world view”.

During Term5 students have been learning about making up stories. In this week, students created subsequent stories after reading the book Green Cat. Students came up with ideas on how Kotdam’s mom finds her daughter hidden in one of the forty pots. A lot of funny stories came up. The fourth graders said “Her mom will find Kotdam with her smell”, “If Mom reads aloud the book Kotdam loves, she must laugh. Then mom can find her. “If Mom says she will buy whatever Kotdam wants, she will come out”.This Week, Around & About FP...
