Update from PGMS PTSA January 2021

Dear PGMS families,

Below is a re-cap of the events that your PTSA has organized, hosted, and supported. You have a PTSA Board that loves our students and we are doing our best to keep the same activities going and planning new ones while following the County Health Guidelines. At our monthly meetings, one thing we do is brainstorm about certain events or activities. Sometimes the activities are carried out through a committee or a team is created within the board to execute the plan. It truly is a group effort.

I would like to personally thank the PGMS PTSA Executive Board members for all of their volunteer time spent at meetings, planning and meeting on their own, behind the scenes and at the events making things happen. Thank you, as well, to Mr. Roach and PGMS Office for supporting PTSA.

Honors Breakfast for January 25, 2021

The PGMS PTSA 7th grade committee is hosting the Honors Breakfast on Monday, January 25, 2021, 7:30 a.m.- 8:45 a.m., with a drive-by pick up at First Awakenings or at the middle school. Eligible students and their parent/guardian received their invitation via email last week.

First Awakenings is making hot and fresh egg, cheese, and potato breakfast burritos for the students, along with meeting the dietary request of some students . We are getting the apples and juice boxes from PGUSD Food Service. The water bottles are being donated by one of our board members. The strawberries are being donated (a parent had a connection). And, we have our board members volunteering their time to hand out the breakfast to our students.

Please support our local restaurants. First Awakenings is one of our restaurants that has continued to support our school for many years. Thank you!

Thank you to Melissa G., Katya K., Janna D., and Apple for hosting and organizing the event.

October Chipotle Fundraiser

Our Fundraising Committee worked with Chipotle in Monterey and was able to schedule a Dine-Out Fundraiser that happened in October. With your support the PTSA was rewarded a check for $246.06. We received 33% of the sales, after reaching $150. Thank you!

Honors Luncheon in December

The PGMS PTSA 6th grade committee hosted the Honors Luncheon in December. Eligible students were able to pick up a Costco Sandwich, chips, water bottles, and a cookie. We had students with dietary requests and they were fulfilled. A sign-up genius was emailed out to our families and the next thing you know, we had families signed up to donate boxes of chips, sandwich bags, and time to pack the individual cookies for our students. The cookies were made from our Food Service Department. The 240 water bottles were donated from a company (a parent had a connection). Thank you to PTSA Board Members Karin O., Nancy D., and Apple for hosting and organizing the event.

Hot dogs, Tater Tots, Brussel Sprouts...

A group of the PTSA members worked together with Lucy's on Lighthouse to create a menu for PGMS Teachers and Staff and decorated the outdoor activity. The teachers and staff truly enjoyed their after school meal while supporting another local restaurant- don't forget to stop by Lucy's on Lighthouse. Thank you to PTSA Board Members Petula L., Ali L., Zoe R., Melissa G., and Apple for organizing the event.

Picture Day Donuts

It was a last minute idea, one of our board members, Lacrisha F., came up with an idea of us to do something for our students and since picture day was around the corner we started coming up with ideas. Mr. Roach and Mrs. Odell started thinking in the office and idea of donuts, fruit, and a water bottle transpired. The PTSA Board voted and Lacrisha took the lead to plan out the donut surprise. The board members and their kids made posters with positive messages on them. The donuts were made by Reds Donuts and the kids had yummy choices. This was the first time we were able to see our middle school students and put a face to their name. It was nice to talk to them in person. Thank you to PTSA Board Member Lacrisha for organizing the event and everyone who helped make this happen.

8th Grade Promotion

In the past, we've had the Promotion Ceremony in the Performing Arts Center (auditorium) and the Promotion Dance in the middle school gym. Due to the pandemic, the celebration for our 8th graders will look different this year. The PGMS PTSA 8th grade committee is coming up with ideas for the 8th grade Promotion Ceremony and how we can celebrate our 8th graders this year. If you have any ideas or connections, please reach out to our 8th grade reps by emailing Lacrisha Ferriera at
