Celebrations 2014!
Alphabet, Scavenger Hunt, and Card warm up activities
Challenge your students to complete an activity for each letter of the alphabet. This is a great way to let your student's creativity shine - students can either work alone or in a set group to complete the task. At the end of the warm up invite students to add to a master list of A-Z activities - you will have an instant resource to use again and again, plus students will have a huge number of ideas to choose from if you use the activity again.
2. Scavenger Hunt warm-up
Use your gym or outdoor playing area to create a scavenger hunt. Make a list of 10 tasks for students to complete in order. You could have the class complete the same scavenger hunt or hand out cards with different variations on them. You could even have your students create their own versions to complete either at school during recess or at home. Click here for an example of one I did with my high school students.
3. Card Game warm-ups
Brett Sinnett has some great warm-up activities posted on his blog. In card catching, students collect a card from the teacher and then complete that number of passes on the card. You could vary the equipment used to suit your current unit or theme. Shuffle the deck see students collecting a card which corresponds to a fitness activity. Their aim is to collect as many cards as they can before the deck has gone. Finally in Full House, teams of students search under poly spots, one student at a time in a relay race to find their Full House of cards: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and 10 of their assigned suit. Students who are waiting their turn to search could have an activity to complete at their team's home base that changes every time a new runner goes in search of the cards they need. Check out Brett's blog for more details and visuals of these three activities.
4. #Physed Instant Activities Google Slides
Don't forget about the crowd-sourced #physed instant activities Google slides. There are now more than 50 different instant activities listed, contributed by teachers all over the world. Please add to the document if you have an activity to share.

Monthly Challenge: 100 Mile Club & Spark's competition
This month's challenge does not come from me and it does not last a month! The 100 Mile Club invites students to run or walk 100 miles at school during a single school year.
Their website provides tons of information about how to get started - you can either join or maybe modify the challenge to suit the needs of your school and students.
For some added incentive to get your school moving, check out Spark's 25 day physical activity challenge. The challenge runs from September 29th through October 31st and there are some great prizes on offer. Don't forget to sign to for Let's Move Active Schools if you have not already.
