January Jr/Sr High Newsletter

2015-16 High School Scheduling

Starting the week of January 26th, Ms. Morck, Guidance Counselor, will begin meeting with students in grades 11, 10, 9, and 8 to schedule courses for the 2015-16 school year. Grade level reminders will be sent through SchoolMessenger, email, and the school website (www.Galwaycsd.org). Parents are encouraged to attend scheduling meetings with your child.

January 2015 Regents Exam Schedule

January 2015 Regents exams will be held Monday, January 26th - Thursday, January 29th.


Regular classes for students in grades 7-12 will be held on January 26th, January 28th, and January 29th. Regular classes for students in grades 7-12 will not be in session on January 27th. Students taking the Global History regents (8:00) or the Integrated Algebra regents (12:00) who need transportation to or from school on January 27th should notify Mrs. Kondrat in the High School Office.

Galway Girls Varsity Basketball coach Deb Wilday earned the 300th victory of her career with a 48-33 victory over Northville on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. Congratulations Coach Wilday, next stop - win #400!!

Students who attend the information night and are interested in applying for admission to the 2015-16 9th or 11th Grade cohort should see their Guidance Counselor (Ms. Morck, Grade 10) or Mrs. Britten (Grade 8) no later than Friday, February 6, 2015.

Jr/Sr High School Health and PE Exchange

The Health and PE teachers recently switched roles for a Health - PE "Exchange". Jenn Gerber (Health teacher) joined Mr. Kennedy in Phys. Ed classes to introduce students to yoga. Students in grades 7-12 learned basics yoga principles, including stretching and yoga positions. Several students found yoga to be more difficult than they expected.


Mrs. Wilday taught students in Health classes CPR and First Aid. Students in grades 7 and 10 were taught the basics of CPR, including the cardiac chain of survival, signs and symptoms of a heart attack, and how to use an AED. First Aid instruction included how to treat bleeding, burns,sprains, poisoning, shock and how to care for a choking victim.

Poetry Out Loud

Congratulations to all the poets who participated in the 2nd Annual Poetry Out Loud competition held after school on January 16, 2015, in Mr. Hall’s room. The two winners were Zarah Chaverri and Gaby Raia. Zarah and Gaby will be going on to represent Galway at the state competition held at the Empire State Plaza in Albany on February 13th. Well done ladies!

Science Saturday - January 24th @ 10:00
