E-Learning for Band - What does it look like?
There will be a DAILY check in google form assignment in addition to your weekly DLG. This daily check in will be required, but will be short and easy.
It's imperative that you complete the daily check in. We have been instructed to contact families who do not log in to google classroom daily. Thank you for understanding.

You'll all have a "DIGITAL LEARNING GRID" - Weekly DLG
This is a google doc Ms. Parker and Mrs. Merritt created so students have free choice when practicing band assignments. With all of the performances cancelled, the learning for band class has an opportunity to be more student-centered and individualized. We understand that its easy for e-learning to be overwhelming, but we hope that instead of ignoring your band work you will see it as an opportunity to grow, have fun, be creative and fall back in love with music.
You'll see at least 9 tasks (with supplemental work at the bottom of the page) and you will choose 1-2 tasks to complete per week.
You'll submit some kind of evidence of your learning to a "Weekly DLG" assignment in GOOGLE CLASSROOM. For example, if the square says "submit a video of yourself playing ___" you will attach a video to that week's google classroom assignment. If it says "clap and count this rhythm" - your family member can video you doing this and submit that video. If it says to write out a composition, you can snap a picture of what you wrote when you're finished and submit that photo. You're required to turn in your DLG work by the end of each week.
If you read each assignment in google classroom carefully, you will understand that Ms. Parker and Mrs. Merritt will be looking at each students submissions weekly so we can make sure everyone is on track and correct.

FAQ for Band during Covid 19
If you are renting a school instrument, we want you to hang onto it so you have something to practice while we are e-learning. We will schedule a turn-in day when things settle down and let you know when to return your instrument to DMS.
2. What if I left my instrument or other belongings in the band room?
Wednesday, April 8 is our last chance to get instruments from the DMS Band room. You should have received an email with a SignUp Genius link to sign up and pick up your instrument. We will schedule another time in the summer for students to come clean out their band lockers.
3. How will band auditions work?
Please see the post at the top of this newsletter for details about auditions at DMS and BJHS.
4. What if I have my instrument but not my binder and music?
If you don't have your music binder, don't worry! Smart Music has access to almost every song we have done. Search the Google Classroom stream to find the information to join.
5. When will we get information about a refund for the Orlando Trip, since it's cancelled?
Our deepest apologies, but this refund is going to take us a few weeks to process. Please know that we are actively/daily pursuing this and are working hard to do the best we can with the situation we are given. This is an unusual situation and there are SEVERAL logistical steps that need to be approved and then accomplished. The admin team and the central office are part of this process but are currently focused on starting e-learning. We will get information to you right when we have it. The travel company has done a great job with staying on top of this process. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding!
