Science Experiments in Mr. Hamidi's Room

Science Bowl

This year we were able to send a team of amazing science students to The Alabama School of Math and Science in Mobile, AL. Our team competed against some of the state's elite schools. This is a great example of nothing is impossible if we believe enough and want better things for our students at LFHS. A small school does not mean small ideas and dreams! Big shout out to Mr. Hamidi, Mrs. Lake, and our many parents as well as those who donated money to make this possible!!!!

Professional Development

Below are pictures of our professional development day. Several of our teachers got to present some of the amazing technology they have been using to enhance their instruction to their peers. This year we have partnered with a company called Untether and their co-founder Casie Barksdale to really change how we view and use technology in our classrooms. This has also allowed LFHS to prepare our students for the virtual/technology world that awaits them upon graduation.

(FETC) The Future of Education Technology Conference in Orlando, FL

As I mentioned above, we have invested a lot of time and money to prepare our teachers to help our students face the world ahead of them. Ms. Weldon and I got the opportunity to attend a technology conference to learn how to continue to advance LFHS when our time with Mrs. Barksdale is complete. This conference allowed us to meet with authors of education, meet with school leaders from around the world, and learn about the newest technology available in a school setting. This was an amazing opportunity to advance our school for years to come!

Outside-In and Children's Center

Our new guidance counselor Mrs. Hodnett was tasked upon her hire to really work with our middle school aged students. She has done an amazing job bringing in programs to help our students understand they are not alone..everyone struggles at their age. She has also brought in people to teach and help them be more aware of how to deal with conflicts of various issues our students face daily.

Teaching

I visited Ms. Kirk's room recently and they were balancing equations using LEGO pieces. You are NEVER to old to play with them..even if you are having to learn and think with them. I had the privilege to teach Mrs. Kelley's 7th period 7th grade advanced math class recently as well. Teaching is something if you love it..you never stop loving it and the passion never goes away. I had a blast and our students are amazing!

The Goal:

The goal of this weekly newsletter is to inform and keep you updated on the happenings here at Locust Fork High School. There are so many amazing things going on at the school that may get overlooked or not celebrated because they happen behind classroom doors. My goal each week is to spotlight some of the amazing things both academically and extracurricular. Please take a moment to visit our web-site and follow me on twitter @headhornetlfhs
