Description

This institute will provide information, resources, and dedicated time to create materials to support our recently arrived students.


Our goals for Elementary Newcomer and ELD teachers:

  • learn how to effectively implement the newcomer guided reading curriculum RIGOR
  • learn strategies and practices to support newcomers in a balanced literacy framework
  • accelerate language learning through science content


Our goals for Secondary Newcomer and ELD teachers to create:
  • a scope and sequence of key performance tasks for next year
  • a unit outline that identifies how key language and literacy learning experiences lead to the performance task.
  • practice in key newcomer and ELD instructional practices

Logistical Information

Date: June 22-June 26

Time: 9:00am-3:00pm

Location: Fremont High School, 4610 Foothill Blvd, Oakland, CA 94601

Audience: Elementary & Secondary teachers and TSAs and sites with designated newcomer programs and ELD, Sheltered English and LTEL classes. (30)

Stipend: Teachers and TSAs will receive the hourly PD rate
