Principal's Corner
Hello Meadow Park Families,
Next week is a big week at The Park! We begin our state testing schedule this coming Monday. I'm keeping this short because it is important that you read the information below about the upcoming tests. We are hoping for very high attendance these next two weeks so that our testing can be done and over prior to May!
Make it a great week!

Adjusting the damper...
Ready to release their tower...
Getting the micro:bit set...
Unit Highlight - 7th Grade Science
Essential Question:
What are different ways that engineers design buildings to resist damage from earthquakes?
Engineers have come up with some new solutions for minimizing the unwelcome wavering that occur in tall buildings during an earthquake. One of these solutions is the tuned mass damper. In Ashley Fanning’s 7th grade science classes, students are leading an investigation to help them collect data to research how a tuned mass damper can reduce earthquake damage at different earthquake levels. Using a homemade damper tower, students are stretching the tower and different distances. With a coded micro:bit attached on the top of the tower, they are able to collect data points along the x and y axis. They are using an app on their Chromebooks to graph each trial and eventually analyze the difference when there is a damper present versus not. We are so proud of meaningful collaboration which leads to meaningful inquiry experiences taking place in our classrooms at Meadow Park!
Four Corners - A Powerful Teaching Strategy!
Benefits of Four Corners
• When students have appropriate “think time”, the quality of their responses improves.
• Students stay on track because they are accountable for sharing with the rest of the class.
• More critical thinking is retained after a lesson in which students have had an opportunity to discuss and reflect on the topic.
• Many students find it safer or easier to enter into a discussion with a classmate, rather than with a large group.
• It is important for students to learn that, by listening to different points of view, they can build on the ideas
Hints and Management Ideas
• Inform students that they should be prepared to share their own responses or their partner’s responses if asked.
• Give "think time" in order to encourage independent thinking and prevent students from simply going to the same corner as a friend.
• Make sure that students get into groups of no more than two or three. This will make students more accountable for their reasoning and give them time to talk.
• Monitor the discussions so that common confusions can be addressed with the whole group and unique ideas shared.

How do I find out my child's state testing Results?
Student Test Results in ParentVUE
State test scores will be available in ParentVUE! You will be able to see your child’s test results sooner than in prior years with less impact on the environment. For the English Language Arts and Math tests, a student’s score is available in ParentVUE two weeks after both parts of the test are completed. Due to the implementation of the new state science test this year, science scores will not be available until next fall after passing scores are identified by the Oregon Department of Education. The Testing Information tab in ParentVUE has links to additional information about your child’s scores. If you need assistance activating a ParentVUE account, please contact your child’s school. Learn more about ParentVUE. Please note: these scores are not currently available in the ParentVue phone app. Students whose parents/guardians do not have an active ParentVUE account will be mailed English Language Arts and Math test results over the summer, Students with at least one parent/guardian with ParentVUE access may request a printed report by contacting Kay Jenkins by email at kay_jenkins@beaverton.k12.or.us or by phone at 503.356.4594.
