Bulldog Bites
Your source for all things SGF
Dear SGF Families,
The South Glens Falls Central School District is off to a great start in 2023. We have several exciting programs and opportunities for our students this year.
We are also preparing for some exciting new web and app developments that we can’t wait to share with you next month.
Let’s get into the latest Bulldog news!
What an exciting day in our district! Our 2023 Everybody Reads program kicked off today at all of our elementary schools.
Everybody Reads is a building-wide celebration of reading. Each elementary student has been given a copy of Victoria J. Coe's Fenway and Hattie.
Be sure to see our Everybody Reads 2023 website to see our reading calendar and some photos from our kick-off celebrations. Be sure to visit our social media pages since Fenway has taken them over.
We have many fun activities for our students, including a scavenger hunt. Feel free to join us if you want to read along because Everybody Reads!
Where's the bulldog?
With the arrival of Fenway, our beloved bulldog has headed off on vacation! Check our social media channels throughout the month to follow the adventures! And a unique location will be in each week's Bulldog Bites "About Us" section.
Don't worry! The bulldog will return on Feb. 1!
Showing our Support for Damar Hamlin
Thank you to everyone at South High who sported their Buffalo Bills gear on Friday in support of Bills safety #3 Damar Hamlin.
Everyone here at South Glens Falls Central School District is thrilled to hear the latest news that Hamlin is awake and talking following his collapse on the field during Sunday’s game against Cincinnati.
Consider showing your support this weekend by wearing red and blue while you’re out and about! If your student(s) wears their Bills gear this week, send it along to our communications specialist to be featured on our social media channels on Monday.
Fidelis Care Contest
The 2023 Fidelis Care Contest is happening again! Each child in the classrooms that decide to participate gets a coloring sheet. Entries MUST be signed by a parent or guardian in order to participate in the contest. Coloring sheets will be distributed soon.
Winning entries are based on grade levels. Teachers and principals select the winners and mail them into Fidelis via a pre-paid envelope provided. Three winners are chosen per county, the winning children get a trophy, and their classroom gets a huge box of Crayola markers.
BOCES Online Enrichment Opportunities
As we jump into 2023, The SGFCSD is excited to announce an online enrichment opportunity through BOCES for any interested fifth, sixth, seventh, or eighth-grade students. These four different enrichment courses, outlined in the linked PDF document, will be offered virtually on four Tuesday afternoons beginning at the end of January from 4 - 5:30 p.m. The cost of these courses is completely covered by the school district, and they are open to any of our fifth through eighth-grade students. From creating comic books to learning how to code, these diverse offerings are a great way to jumpstart some creative energy in the new year! Please use this link to register no later than January 13th.
Contact your school’s main office if you have specific questions. Take care, and keep exploring!
