Halloween
Tradition of Dressing in Costume
Halloween
The first official Halloween celebration was in Anoka, MN in 1921. Colonial Halloween celebrations included ghost stories and trouble making. Then in the mid-1800s Amercians began dressing in costumes and going house-to-house asking for food or money, which we now call trick-or-treat. By the early 1900s Halloween parties were focused on festive costumes, games and food. By 1950s Halloween was a holiday for the children.
