Actions to increase effectiveness of schools in a rapidly changing world
Schools, in order to be nimble and stay relevant and impactful, need to abandon the rigid structures designed for less dynamic times. The NEW School Rules expands cutting-edge organizational design and modern management techniques into an operating system for empowering schools with the same agility and responsiveness so vital in the business world.
- 6 simple rules create a unified vision of responsiveness among educators
- Real life case studies illustrate responsive techniques implemented in a variety of educational demographics
- 15 experiments guide school and district leaders toward increased responsiveness in their faculty and staff

In this weeks PDL TECHniques, we discuss how to create shorten URL’s with bit.ly. Bit.ly is a great tool for turning a long URL into something short and memorable. Bit.ly gives you the ability to create customized shorten URL’s and it has a Chrome extension for convenience.
Diving in to Digital Citizenship
Digital Citizenship Public Service Announcement Contest!
In honor of Digital Citizenship Week (October 15-19), we want to see your students get creative! Tell or show us, as a digital citizen, how you exercise your rights and act responsibly by submitting a Public Service Announcement (PSA). This can be in the form of a 90 second or less video, an interactive digital flier, or another creative product! Check out the flier here and read the guidelines here. Top winners will get a PDL specialist to come and teach their class!
Upcoming Learning Opportunities
PDL Course Catalog: Our PDL catalog has sessions that you can request that we are offering for all schools. The catalog is a working document and we are always adding to it. Check out our Virtual Personalized Digital Learning course catalog! All virtual courses run in Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. To participate, please register in MyTalent and obtain the link to access and begin the Canvas course!

Reminders
Survey Reminder:
PL Cohort Schools Only: Action Required- Surveys Please share the surveys links below with your staff, parents and students. The surveys will be distributed twice a year (Fall and Spring). For the parents surveys, you can add this to the parent communication letter or send it through the classroom teacher’s email. We recommend that this link is NOT sent via social media as we need the results to be only PDL CMS schools. As a reminder, these surveys only go to those that are participating in the PDL initiative. For example, if only your grade 5 is a part of the PDL initiative, the surveys only go to the grade 5 staff, parents and students. Please have the following surveys completed by 10/5/2018:
