Hello All,
On Monday October 23rd, JSMS will kick off Red Ribbon Week.
This year's theme is:
“Your Future is Key, so stay Drug Free”
We will have resources and activities set up in the atrium and the cafeteria for the students this week.
Along with The Red Ribbon theme -“ Your Future is Key” -this year we will be focusing on Colleges and Careers. There will be tables in the atrium with college information and careers for the students.
Students who participate can enter to win prizes at the stations located in the atrium. We will be giving away college items.
*Students will also be able to enter drawing contest relating to Red Ribbon Theme: “Your Future is Key, so stay Drug Free”
Information will be available during lunches.
Also tied in the schedule this week we will have:
“UNITY DAY” on Wednesday October 25th.
UNITY DAY: Together against bullying. United for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.
On this day we are asking everyone #GOORANGE
Wear Orange: Make a statement!
“ORANGE provides a powerful, visually compelling expression of solidarity,” said Paula Goldberg, Executive Director of PACER Center. “When hundreds of individuals in a school or organization wear orange, the vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, sending the unified message to kids to know that they are not alone.”
Students will sign UNITY banner and wear bracelets made by our JSMS Natural Helpers, and Student workers at our school.
To closeout Red Ribbon Week we will have a Dress To Impress/ Career Dress Up day on Friday October 27th. Dress Code applies, NO Halloween costumes! Students must be dressed nice or dressed up what they want to be when they grow up.
Students who participate will have a chance to win a prize at the end of the day. Winners will be announced before the bell rings. Winners will come to the office to get their prize.

TEAM Growth and Achievement Measure Selections need to be COMPLETE THIS WEEK!
*An email will be coming soon with an attachment so that you can make your selection.
Extended Timeline for 2017-18 Growth and Achievement Measure Selection
In order to allow districts the opportunity to set achievement scales based on AMO targets, the deadline for entering growth and achievement measure selections for the 2017-18 school year into TNCompass has been extended to COB Nov. 15. Please note that achievement measure scales are not required to be entered into TNCompass; only the measure selection is required. Click here for instructions for importing growth and achievement measure selections into TNCompass.
Updating TNCompass Contact Information for All Educators
The department is working with TNCompass to enhance the personalized communication that exists between educators and TNCompass. To ensure the security of these communications, all educators must review their accounts and update their username/email address to reflect their official district email address. We ask all district evaluation configurators to communicate this requirement to all educators in the district.
To update their email addresses, educators should select “Account Information” from the home page upon login and click the “Change Username/Email” link under account settings. Please note that this change must be made in the account information section and cannot be made in the educator profile. With technical questions, please reach out to support@tncompass.org.
Social Studies Blueprints
The social studies grades 5–8 assessment blueprint for 2017-18 is now available on the department’s website (here). As a reminder, blueprints are designed to offer teachers an overview of the test structure. Blueprints also include descriptions of TNReady item types and, if applicable, subject-specific ancillary documents, such as calculator guidance for math. Blueprints are available for all TNReady assessments (here).
BENEFIT CHANGES
October 27 at 4:30 p.m. CENTRAL time is the deadline to make changes/additions to medical, dental, and vision insurance in Edison. No paper forms are to be completed for these benefits. Please do not wait until October 27 to process changes as all employees throughout the state who are on the state insurance has the same deadline. If everyone waits until that day, the system could get overloaded and your changes may not be processed. If you are wanting to sign up for Flex Spending or the City of Kingsport Delta Dental for your dental insurance for 2018, you need to complete a paper form and forward to Angie Price in Human Resources at the ASC.
