Arbor Springs Back to School!
2018-2019: Rich Learning; Enriched Students
Our Mission: Arbor Springs Committed to Student Success.
From Dr. Durrance
Welcome back to school! We are so happy to have everyone back!
This year, we are focusing on reading! Students and teachers have taken a challenge to read 30 books this year (and yes, that includes the administrative team!). I've been enjoying catching kids and teachers reading during free time such as lunch and recess! Our goal is to develop students who LOVE to read so that they can read to LEARN! You can help by picking up a book of your own and reading to or with your child. You can also help by asking about what your child is reading. You are also welcome to donate gently used books (young adult literature or picture books) for our classroom libraries. And of course, you can always come and read to a class! Just remember to complete a volunteer form the first time you come to volunteer. Kristen can help you with that.
Speaking of volunteering, there are so many ways you can be involved! Check out the PTA facebook page for more information or email them at arborspringspta@yahoo.com!
If you haven't heard, we have implemented a "house" system at Arbor Springs. Here's a flyer with more information.
Enjoy these pictures of folks caught reading and check out Mrs. Clay's counseling newsletter below.
By the way, I'm finishing We Were the Mulvaney's, a novel by Joyce Carol Oates.

Character Corner:
The character word for the month of August was respect. Respect is courteous consideration and high regard for yourself and others. Respect is a way of treating or thinking about something or someone. It always helps to think before you say or doing things. Always think about how others might feel.
Respect and School
The first few weeks of school you are learning rules and routines. It is important to put what you are learning in practice. As a gator, one of our expectations is to be respectful! Respect has several meanings.
Having regard for others. That means accepting that other people are different but just as important as you feel you are. Some people may call this tolerance.
Having a proper respect for yourself. That means that you stand up for yourself and don't let yourself be talked into doing things that you know is wrong or makes you feel uncomfortable.
Not interfering with others (or their property.)
To consider something worthy of high regard. That really means taking all those other values and living them.

Red Ribbon Week
The National Family Partnership organized the first Nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign. NFP provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Celebration. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness. The students and faculty at Arbor
Springs will show our commitment to a drug-free lifestyle by participating in various Red Ribbon activities all week long. We will celebrate and honor National Red Ribbon Week from 10/22-10/26. Our theme this year is Life is your journey, travel drug free. Please talk to your children about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, peer pressure and embracing integrity by making good decisions.
