Thursday's Thoughts
March 3, 2016
Ron Clark
Laura, Laurie, Matt, and I were able to see Ron Clark speak this past Monday at Anderson University. I love to hear him speak as he is so real. He spoke a lot to those students at AU who are majoring in education. He was very direct with them and told them that we need runners in schools. He told them that if they were ones who will complain to their fellow staff members about parents or other staff members, if they are of the mindset to do only what needs to be done to get by and not go above and beyond, and if they don't plan to work hard, to do us a favor and not go into education. He said that kids come and go and they don't make the school. He went on to say that the teachers and staff make the school and those people have to be runners. For those of you who have not read "Move Your Bus", runners are those people in your building who don't complain, don't gossip, choose to be happy, always strive to be better, want to do whatever it takes and more, and work hard. This is the work ethic we have established through our Staff Customs. :-) I am glad I work with runners. I promise you I will always strive to be a runner as well!
Happy Friday,
Kristie
Staff Custom: Keep an iServe mentality. Serve each other as a faculty while we are serving our students.
Spring is right around the corner. Be vigilant!
As the weather warms up and the end of the year gets closer, please be vigilant. Keep a close eye on students at recess. Discipline issues tend to rise with the warmer weather. Thank you for closely supervising your students. :-)
Mark your calendars for June 6th and 7th.
The summer academy this year will focus on literacy. June 6th will feature Lester Laminack and June 7th will be day one of the Foundations Course needed for the literacy endorsement. This will be held at Palmetto High School.
Pancake Roll-Ups
Our students love pancake roll-up day. Please pass breakfast out this day as the cafeteria is having many students come down and say they did not have enough pancake roll-ups in their bins. Tonna always cooks extra on this day, but there is a high number of kids coming into the cafeteria saying they did not have enough. Please make sure only students who order pancake roll-up get one on these days. Thank you!
The #1 factor in a highly effective school is a highly effective teacher.
Time for Kids
The time has come for our students to complete the Time for Kids booklets in order to receive necklaces. This year, we will have Garfield necklaces for those students who complete address books for Time for Kids. We will send you a video to show to your classes Monday along with the booklets and a letter explaining the program for parents. Students will return books each day and we will bring the necklaces to them. I will send the video to you all Monday. This is the program that allows us to receive Time for Kids for free.
Playground Equipment
Dee will be bringing you all some playground equipment for students to use during recess. She is going to bring you hula hoops, jump ropes, etc. Maybe we could have a double dutch team. :-) Please have a student to be in charge of your playground equipment and mark your items with your name.
March 15th
We will meet during planning March 15th as our first A Team to discuss struggling students. Please complete the data collection form that Stacey gave you on your most struggling student. We will talk about these students during this meeting. I will send out more information as the date gets closer.
Earth Day
Heather has done so much in our reading garden. We will have a big event April 22nd to dedicate this garden. Heather is working hard to plan a big event for this date. On this day, please plan a lesson surrounded around Earth Day for your classes. Students will rotate among many events on this date and will be with you for a class. Be thinking of a great lesson centered on Earth Day. April 22nd will be here before we know it!
Congrats Emily and Rebecca!
Both Emily and Rebecca had their Donors Choose grants funded! Congratulations!
Good Luck Kristy and our Jet Toy Team!
Keep Kristy and our Jet Toy team in your thoughts tomorrow morning. They will be competing at Daniel High School. We know you will do great!
