A Message from Proud Principal, Laura Clark

I guess the only things Fall related for us is football and hurricane season. These 90 degree temperatures definitely are not Fall like. The weather this time of year is so unpredictable and fortunately Hurricane Dorian took an eastern turn and did not impact our area. Some of you may remember Hurricane Irma in 2017 when our school was closed for 3 days due to wind damage and power outages. Some areas, like the Bahamas, were heavily impacted by Hurricane Dorian and our thoughts go out to the families and communities. As a school district, we are prepared for inclement weather situations and the use of potential Digital Learning Days.


Thank you to all who have participated in our PTA fundraiser. We are so close to making our goal of raising $30,000.00. Currently we have raised $26,957 which is just $3,000 shy of our goal!!. We have the rest of the weekend to meet our goal. Parents may still make donations on MyPaymentsPlus. I am amazed at the generosity of our community and the commitment to Parsons Elementary. As you know PTA is wanting to purchase 30 Chromebooks for our school.

CogAT testing will take place from Monday, September 9 to Wednesday, September 11 for students in Grades 1, 2, and 5. It is so important for your student to get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast during testing time. Be sure to have your student here on time - when they are late checking in, sometimes they have to do make up testing on a different day.


Due to school wide schedule changes on CogAT testing dates, we ask that you do not attend lunch with your child. Thank you so much for your assistance with this.

Afternoon Transportation

All transportation changes must be made in writing.Whenever you need to make a change to your child's afternoon transportation plan, please complete an Afternoon Transportation Change Form, which can be found here https://www.gcpsk12.org/Page/11429 or on our school's website, and send it in to your child's teacher. We will utilize this form to create the appropriate afternoon transportation pass. Please remember the GCPS Bus Rule: No passes will be issued for play dates, birthdays, weekend sleepovers, etc. For security reasons we DO NOT accept transportation changes through phone calls or emails.

Student Checkout

Anyone checking out a child must present photo identification and be listed in our system as someone able to have access to the student. If you need to make changes to your list of approved emergency contacts, you may make changes on the Parent Portal or stop by the office to update this information. As a reminder, students may NOT be checked out after 3:00 PM.

A message from your PTA Presidents

As of today we have raised $26,957 of our $30,000 goal. The last $3,000 would buy 12-14 more Chromebooks so please consider donating on My Payments Plus through Sunday. From now on 100% of donations will be applied toward Chromebooks! We will continue to pass out key chains until Monday while supplies last. The money from this weekend will still be applied to the prizes;

Kona Ice party, Party Bus, Parsons blanket, party packages and PIE A TEACHER OR PRINCIPAL IN THE FACE.

Parsons Reading Program

The Parsons Reading Program will begin in September and continue until the end of March. Students need to read a minimum of 100 minutes per week. “Reading for 20 minutes per day exposes you to 1.8 million words a year.” We are fortunate to be able to use the same Beanstack program that is offered through the Gwinnett County Public Library to track our minutes at Parsons. This is the same format that is used for the summer reading program. You will only be logging minutes (100 minutes per week), and they must be submitted online through Beanstack during the program. If your student attended Parsons last year, they should already have an account. Please check before you create another account for your student. You will need to edit the patron and check the current grade level and add the homeroom teacher's name in the name field along with your student's name. Those students who read 2500 minutes this year will receive a certificate of accomplishment and will be invited to the Reading Celebration at the end of the school year.
