IMPORTANT AP Deadline!
Any student who wishes to take an AP exam in the Spring of 2023, needs to log into AP Classroom and make an exam decision by Friday, November 4 at 5pm. Exams ordered after this date will incur a $40 late registration fee. Exams that are cancelled after this date will also incur a $40 cancellation fee. More information can be found in this document as well as on the Rock Ridge Testing Website. Any student whose exam decision is “undecided” on November 4 will be switched to “No” and will need to pay the $40 fee to order an exam. Please reach out to liz.grainger@lcps.org if you have any questions about exam ordering.
Academies of Loudoun Students:
Students who attend the Academies of Loudoun are responsible for following all registration instructions provided so they are registered to test at the appropriate school. Questions about AP exams at the Academies should be directed to their testing coordinator, Mr. K.
Virtual Virginia Students:
Students enrolled in an AP Virtual Virginia course, whether it’s year-long or a semester course that begins in January, need to enroll in an exam-only section at Rock Ridge HS to take the AP exam in May. Please email Liz.Grainger@lcps.org for this code ASAP.
Digital AP Exam Option
Digital AP exams are available for the courses listed below. Any student who wishes to take the digital option needs to fill out the appropriate Google Form by the November 4 ordering deadline. Failure to indicate an exam preference will result in the exam defaulting to paper/pencil. Additionally, any student who orders an exam after November 4 will have the exam default to paper/pencil. Questions about the digital AP exam for your AP course should be directed to your AP teacher or the College Board’s website.

Grading
The last Day of Marking Period was Thursday 10/28/22, please review in Parentvue your student’s progress. Contact your student’s teacher for any questions or concerns. Report cards will be viewable in PVUE/SVUE by 4pm on Monday 11/07/22.
Junior Parents
On December 7th we will be having Junior Parent night to prepare students/parents for life beyond high school virtually at 7pm. This is based on the preferences parents selected from last week’s survey. We will send out a link soon.
Step Up Loudoun Youth Competition
Encourages middle and high school youth, across the county to identify an issue in their school, neighborhood or community, create a plan to address that issue, and implement the plan. The goal is to encourage, support and reward the youth of Loudoun County for making positive changes in their own lives and the lives of others. This annual competition runs from early fall through late spring. This is great to have on any resume or college application.
- Identify and address issues around you that you believe could be better
- Develop crucial critical thinking, presentation and communication skills
- Learn planning and execution skills needed to affect community change
- Demonstrate community leadership
- Interact with judges that can include corporate leaders, government officials and members of the media

Seniors
58% of our seniors have applied to college!!! Our goal is 80% by winter break. As we move past the Nov 1st and 15th deadlines please be aware of the deadlines for December and January. With the upcoming school days off things can get crazy with remembering deadline dates. Senior Parents: Please post the dates below on your refrigerator, household mirrors, Xbox one or Playstations. Counseling will send out several thousand transcripts for applications in December and January alone. College deadlines are hard deadlines. So please encourage your seniors to get everything in on time. If your senior is having trouble with college applications, please have them set up a time with Mrs. Marchante. She is the expert!!!!
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened Oct 1. Please take the time to fill this out even if you believe you will not qualify. Some colleges use the FAFSA as part of scholarship applications to verify information.

Rock Ridge Fine Arts!
Ultrazone Laser Tag Spirit Night (11/1) - Join us on Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 12-8 p.m. for Laser Tag to celebrate the end of the first quarter and to help raise funds for our Rock Ridge Singers! Students, family members and friends can pay per game or $20 for unlimited play during our Spirit Night! Ultrazone will donate 30% back to Rock Ridge Sings! "Rockappella" (11/4) – Rock Ridge's a cappella club, Rockappella, has just started working on new music. All students are welcome to join us on Friday mornings from 8:30-9:15 in the Chorus Room (1817) to sing collegiate style a cappella music. Donuts are provided each week! Annual dues that include the donuts, sheet music and t-shirt can be paid using this link.
Cold and Flu Season - Please Read!
Dear parents/guardians as we enter cold and flu season and continued COVID, please remember to keep your student home and have them tested for COVID and/or the flu if they have any of the following symptoms and submit the results, positive or negative, through attendance or directly to me at robyn.wisti@lcps.org
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Cough
- Runny nose/congestion
- Fatigue
- Nausea/vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Fever
It is important to remember your student must be fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medication, in order to return to school.

SUBMIT THE CORRECT FAFSA FORM
Please pay particular attention to which year you are completing your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). You must submit the 2023-2024 form.
If you don't remember which one you have submitted, please follow the following steps:
· Log in as a returning user with your FSA ID to www.fafsa.gov
· Once logged in, your application should say "2023-2024"
· Then, search your personal email inbox for "Student Aid" - you should have received an acknowledgement email stating what year you submitted along with the result EFC (Expected Family Contribution). You should use your personal email to apply for FAFSA, not your school email.
If you have submitted the 2022-2023 form, please resubmit your FAFSA as soon as possible using the returning user log in and clicking on the 2023-2024 form instead as "renew". All your information should transfer, but please double check the information.

Senior Dues!
The system for paying Senior Fees has changed this year with the introduction of SchoolCash Online. Many thanks to those of you who have already completed the Senior Fees payment.
As a the parent of a senior student you should have received a message from SchoolCash Online requesting you to set up an account. SchoolCash Online When you have an account you will be able to see the obligations for payment that your student has.
The Senior Fees this year are $85 per student with an optional donation of $20. The fees cover the cost of Cap and Gown for graduation, senior tee-shirt that was distributed recently, meals at final graduation practice and other final year related expenses.

DECA Volunteers NEEDED!
DECA District Leadership Conference (DLC) Judges & Proctors Needed
The annual DECA District Leadership Conference (DLC) event is quickly approaching, and we need your help! Business and industry professionals, community members, and LCPS faculty and staff are invited to participate.
We are currently seeking volunteers to serve as event judges and proctors on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
- This is an in-person event at Lightridge High School (Aldie, VA).
- Volunteers are needed from approximately 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM.
- A tentative schedule is available here; however, please note that events may conclude at different times depending on the total number of students competing.

2021-2022 Indicator 8 Parent Involvement Survey
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is asking for families who have a child with a disability and adult students with a disability and are provided special education services through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) to participate in the 2021-2022 Indicator 8 Parent Involvement Survey. The online survey is now open and available for completion in English and Spanish at the following websites until December 16, 2022:
