A Message from the Principal
This past week we welcomed our option 1 students back into the building as we once again transitioned back to face-to-face instruction. For some of our students, this week was the first time they had an opportunity to attend classes inside the building in almost a year. So you can imagine the excitement as well as the uneasiness students felt while finding their way through the halls of Princess Anne. We have spent a lot of time directing and comforting students during yet another change. This change also reminds us that for some of our staff members this past week was the first time they we able to welcome students into their classrooms. We appreciate the help and support that you continue to provide your child(ren) and our school during these transitions. Here are a few reminders to help with this transition:
- Students should be following their intended options. For example, students who selected option 1, should be coming in to the building for face-to-face instruction on their assigned days. If families wish to change their options, they are required to send a written request to email@example.com.
- Students are not allowed into the building until 7:05AM each morning and can receive free breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria
- Students do not need to purchase a parking pass; however, they will still need to complete the registration process and come to the main office to be assigned a parking space
- To ride the school bus students/parents must register with transportation to be assigned a space on their school bus
- Students can still participate in athletics and clubs activities. Please see the sponsor, coach for information or check with our Student Activities Coordinator Bob Robbins
Even though we are getting closer to returning to a more normal sense of structure in school, we are still conducting virtual meetings to ensure the safety of everyone. We look forward to a successful second term in the building and thank you in advance for your support as we make this a Great Year to be a Cavalier!

Daily Announcements Information
This year we are using a Google Site to streamline communication about school events, activities, and opportunities with teachers, students, and parents. A daily message will be sent to students and teachers and posted on the group's main page for parents in the PAHS students and staff group. Click on the Daily announcements link on the PAHS website or follow these directions to access the daily announcements in ParentVue.
- Log into ParentVue.
- Click on Schoology on the left side of the page.
- Click on Schoology Parent Access.
- At the top, choose groups.
- Then choose HPA all staff and students.
- Find the daily announcements link and open.
We now have an Instagram account for the school, and we would like to get as many students, staff, and parents to follow so we can wield the power of social media to communicate with our PAHS community. Please follow us on Instagram @pahscavs and on Twitter as @PAHSCAVS.
SPECTATORS AT FALL SPORTING EVENTS
Except for football games played on February 26 and 27, 2021 and the sports noted below, a limited number of spectators will be permitted to attend fall sports contests. Spectators must maintain 10 feet of physical distancing and wear masks that cover both their nose and mouth.
- Admission will not be charged.
- Tickets will be distributed to allow 150 admissions to the home school and 100 admissions to the visiting school.
- Tickets will be distributed to the football and cheer teams by the Student Activities Coordinator each week with a unique color ticket for each game.
- Because schools will vary in the degree of band participation, size of football teams, and special circumstances surrounding senior night and homecoming, individual schools will decide how tickets will be distributed each week based on their needs and allowances.
- Spectators must maintain 10 feet of physical distancing and wear masks that cover both their nose and mouth.
Cross Country, Field Hockey and Golf
- Spectators will be welcomed at these events .
- As it is highly unlikely that 250 spectators would attend a regular season cross country meet, field hockey game or a golf match, no ticket will be needed.
- Spectators must maintain 10 feet of physical distancing and wear masks that cover both their nose and mouth.
Competition Cheer and Volleyball
- Because these activities are held indoors where only 25 spectators are permitted, NO spectators will be allowed to attend this season.
Writing SOL Test
Students enrolled in English 11 or IBMYP English 10 classes will take the writing SOL test on Monday, March 22 and Monday, March 29, at 7:20 am. Students must attend both days of testing, as the writing SOL test has two parts. Students will not receive a score if they do not take both parts of the test.
Transportation is available; see below for bus information.
Transportation will send out the entire fleet for a full pickup at regular time.
- Option 1 students (students learning face-to-face when it is safe) should use information in ParentVUE to find the bus stop and times. If you are unable to find the needed information you may use the WebQuery Application linked below.
- For Option 2 families (students learning virtual only) a WebQuery Application has been activated to help parents find the nearest bus stop and times and is linked below.

AP Exam Registration
The online payment site is through Total Registration and it is now open. In order to register, students should go to www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/471315 or click on the link provided on your high school’s website. To complete registration, students must answer all of the required questions. Please be sure to have a credit or debit card available before beginning registration. Registration is not complete until the student has paid and received the confirmation page that is provided at the end.
If your student qualifies for the free/reduced lunch program, your student is eligible for an exam fee waiver and can take the AP Exam for free. Students must be registered for the exam in AP Classroom and indicate in the payment section of Total Registration (TR), they qualify for free/reduced lunch. AP Exam registration payment will be pending until free/reduced lunch status is confirmed by PAHS. If your student takes an AP course via Virtual Virginia, please indicate that in the payment section of TR and that will be confirmed by the school. Please be sure to have a credit card or debit card available before beginning registration. AP exam registrations that are not fully paid by Friday, March 5, 2021 may be canceled, and exams will not be ordered.

Spring Into Scholarships!
March is Scholarship Season for seniors!
Students are encouraged to utilize Scholarship Central and Going Merry to search for scholarships. Scholarship Central is a resource for locating various scholarships for high school students. It is updated on a regular basis, so it is important to keep checking the site for new scholarship opportunities. Going Merry is a free scholarship application platform where students can find and apply to national, regional, and local scholarships directly from the website. Students can create a free Going Merry account where they can build a profile with their demographic information, academic information, extracurricular activities, and honors/awards to match them with scholarships. Students also have the option to upload their transcript and letters of recommendation to directly apply to different scholarships. In addition to Scholarship Central and Going Merry, we alert students to scholarship opportunities through morning announcements and the Schoology “Money for College” Group ( Access Code 6H3K-2B9W-QVN9M.)

Virtual Virginia Summer Registration
The City of Virginia Beach’s Mayor's Youth Leaders in Action (MYLA) program is hosting a series of virtual sessions on Vaping and Substance Abuse Prevention. MYLA is a leadership program of middle and high school youth that work to build leadership skills, network with similar youth organizations, and give back to their community through volunteering and service projects.
On behalf of MYLA, they would like to invite Virginia Beach 8th-12th graders to participate in the “Be Smart, Don’t Start” Project. This is an opportunity for young people to share conversation, network, and earn community service hours.

ATTENTION Class of 2021 Families
What fun we are having celebrating our seniors on the 21st of each month! Please watch the school newsletters for the exact dates and times each month. Although we are not sure what graduation and the graduation celebrations will look like, we are committed to making everything as special as safely possible. The PTSA is collaborating with the school administration and the division to provide yard signs for EVERY graduating senior…be on the lookout in early June.

Please notify Mrs. Dictado, School Nurse at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have been exposed to and/or have been tested for COVID. Documentation of COVID test results for either a positive or negative test must be provided. Please provide a good phone number so the nurse can contact you to advise when the Staff/student will be allowed to return to work/school and what documentation must be provided at that time. The school system is providing contact tracing for students and Staff as well as keeping statistics in conjunction with the Health Department. Work/school related emails are checked on evenings and weekends. Contact will be made to determine if attendance or absence is warranted.
Student Safety Protocols
- Use the COVID-19 Self-Screening Questionnaire prior to coming to school and stay home if you can answer yes to any of the questions.
- Masks or cloth face coverings are required to be worn over the mouth and nose except when eating or drinking.
- When eating or drinking, maintain at least six feet of distance from others.
- Not wearing a mask may result in being sent home and disciplinary consequences.
- Maintain at least three feet of social distance from others while wearing a mask.
- Wash hands regularly with soap and warm water.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer (provided in each classroom and throughout the school) when hand washing is not possible.
- Follow one-way directional signs when traveling through hallways.
Welcome to the PAHS Library Media Center!
Hundreds of our wonderful library books from last year were never returned. We understand the past nine months have been trying on us all, but if you could check with your children to see if they have any library books and return them to school, we would be so appreciative. Books can be returned to a book drop outside the main entrance to the building.
