Leadership Message
Building Brains and Blessings!
As we walk through our classrooms daily, we are constantly met with amazing learning happening at Jean Vanier! From the construction of the Three Bears' House in Kindergarten, to a Komodo Dragon Virtual Tour in grade four! As we celebrate the learning progress next week during conferences, please take a moment to share any joyful moments of learning that you have seen or heard about this year with your child's teacher.
In our K-4 setting, we are focused on the learning and development of the whole child; that means growing brains and spirits in all areas. Remembering that God has called each of our children by name to celebrate and share their unique gifts and talents with our world can help remind us to look for all areas of growth; academically, socially, physically, and spiritually. Every student has experienced growth this year and we look forward to sharing that with you next week. Thank-you to each of our families for entrusting us with the most privileged responsibility of journeying with your children.

World Down Syndrome Day
World Down Syndrome DAY is on March 21st and to celebrate, people all over the world wear their crazy socks to show their support for those with Down Syndrome. We invite all of our Jean Vanier Community to show their support and "sport the socks".

School Visitors: Safety, Security, and Learning Time
If you are volunteering or needing to meet with your child's teacher, please check in at the office, sign in, and obtain a visitor tag. For our students' safety and security we monitor all entries into our building. As well, in the case of emergency, we do need to keep track of all people in our building.
As our front entrance can become very congested, we really appreciate your cooperation with waiting outside to pick up your child at the end of day.
Thank-you for continued help in creating and supporting a safe learning environment for all our children at Jean Vanier.
Ukrainian Corner
On Monday, March 13th, the Ukrainian Leadership Team did the presentation about the great Ukrainian poet, artist and writer - Taras Shevchenko. Several students recited his famous and well known poems that they had learned in Ukrainian class. This presentation took place in the schoolgymnasium during our Monday assembly.
As Taras Shevchenko once said:
"The history of my life is a part of the history of my homeland". These words are the key to
understanding of creative work of Taras Shevchenko - the poet and artist.
Hats on for Mental Health
Thank-you to Mr. Fras for organizing the day, and for guiding the student nurses in their preparations. Thank-you also to staff members, who also assisted in planning this meaningful day.
Even though the awareness day is over, our work in responding to children's anxiety and stress continues. Our minds are part of our body and we are here to share ideas on how you can take care of your mind when it is not feeling well.
We wish these student nurses great success as they journey through university and on through their career.

School Masses at OLPH Parish
As part of our faith formation this year, and aligning with our Divisional priorities, we are very excited to have the opportunity to take our classes to daily mass once a month with our Principal and Assistant Principal.
Each month, Mr. Marshall and Mrs. Boehm will be taking one grade to morning mass at OLPH Parish. As we are so blessed to be in such close proximity to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, our students will be walking to mass. Please make sure that your children are dressed for the weather.
These are the dates for which your child’s class will attend mass throughout the year:
Grade 2 classes: April 26, 2017
Grade 1 classes: May 10, 2017
Parents, grandparents, and family members are more than welcome to join us, either at the church, or at the school to walk to mass. Mass begins at 9:15 am, and we will depart Jean Vanier at 8:50 am. Students are expected back at school around 10:30 am.
