The Tiger Times
The Monthly Franklin Family Newsletter - April 2021
Spring Break is here! We hope you will be able to get out and enjoy the warm weather with your families.
We are busy getting ready for the shift to hybrid learning in a couple of weeks! For those of you who are sending your students in-person when this new phase begins, please read all of the important notes below VERY CAREFULLY! There is a lot we need to share with you before we can safely welcome students back to campus.
The Franklin teachers and staff are designing fabulous April and May plans for ALL students - whether they will be remaining distanced or coming to Franklin in the afternoon.
Thank you for your patience with all of the many moving pieces of the last few weeks. We are, as always, in this together for the amazing students of Franklin!
HAPPY SPRING!
Our best,
Ms. Lai & Ms. Sufrin

IMPORTANT: For In-Person Learning Students Only!
- Thank you for sharing your preferences for in-person learning days. We will do our best to accommodate your schedules, but please understand that this may not always be possible. We will notify you by April 14th regarding whether your child will be attending on Mon/Tues (Group A) or Thurs/Fri (Group B).
- We will also be sharing the final schedule and lots of helpful information with you the week of April 12 - please keep an eye out for our messages!
If your child is returning to in-person learning the week of April 19th, you must:
- Submit up-to-date vaccination forms. Your child may not return until their vaccinations are completed.
- Attend a MANDATORY family meeting on Wednesday, April 14th @ 7:30-8:30PM.
- Confirm with the office or your child's teacher so we know to expect your child. Any students arriving on 4/19 without confirmation will not be allowed to attend.
- Sign-up for the communication tool ParentSquare. Instructions are here. If you need help, please remain online at the end of our family meeting on Wed 4/14; someone will help get you signed up.
- Plan to stop by Franklin on 4/15 OR 4/16 between 8:30 - 10am. We will need to give you an important card that you'll need for picking up your child the following week. We will also have a kiosk set up for any families who need help downloading Parent Square.

Spotlight on Franklin Teachers!
Coach Max
Hi Franklin Family,
I’m in my 5th year teaching at Franklin Elementary. I love to teach Franklin students the benefits of 60minutes of exercise per day, drinking a lot of water, cut down on salty and sugary snacks, and always eat fruit and vegetables.
In my free time I like to play basketball, golf, and cook. Going on hikes with my wonderful wife and dog Ritz is so much fun. My favorite thing to do in the world is BBQ and kick it with my family. My family is my parents, sister, brother, niece & Nephew. We like to dance, laugh, and be active.
Franklin & Oakland family rock!
Ms. Atkins
Hello Franklin families!
I have been teaching at Franklin for 6 years and every year has been wonderful. I teach the Creative Expressions program where students use their bodies, minds and the world around them to grow their imagination. I love to teach Creative Dance, yoga, drawing, painting, cooking and gardening. In every class we take time to learn to take deep breaths so we can practice being calm and peaceful. In my spare time I love to hike, roller skate, paint, cook, go camping and dance. One of my favorite places to visit is the public library- i LOVE to read books!!!
I try to make every day the Best Day Ever!

What is your vision for the San Antonio Park Master Plan?
Following the March 23rd and 24th community meetings, City of Oakland staff distributed a second survey to get additional feedback on the community’s vision for San Antonio Park. The survey results will be used to inform and direct the planning process to meet the needs of San Antonio Park users. Below are links to the survey in four languages (Chinese, English, Spanish and Vietnamese).
Community stakeholders can continue submitting survey responses until Monday, April 5, 2021 at midnight.
