Falcon Family Update #13
2020-2021
Upcoming Dates
November 24th- 3-5 Asynchronous Day
November 25th, 26th, 27th- No School (Thanksgiving Break)
December 1st- 3-5 Hybrid Begins
3-5 Hybrid Reminder
Grades 3-5 families that selected hybrid in-person learning in the July survey, are scheduled to begin hybrid in-person learning on December 1.
To allow instructional staff to prepare for hybrid instruction on December 1, LCPS has made an adjustment to the schedule for Tuesday, November 24. November 24 will now be an asynchronous learning day, similar to Mondays, for all grade 3-5 students. Monday, November 23, will remain an asynchronous learning day.
In this stage of our Return to School plan, students in grades 3-5 whose families selected hybrid in-person learning will attend school in-person two days per week, either Tuesday and Thursday or Wednesday and Friday, to support physical-distancing practices. Students whose families chose distance learning will remain in the current distance-learning schedule. The selections families made in July are binding through the end of the first semester. In a survey now taking place, families are being asked to confirm or change their selection for the second semester.
Hybrid Absence Reminder
If you choose not to send your child to school on their designated day they will be considered absent. They will only have access to the teacher at the Morning Meeting time 8-8:30AM.
If you have questions regarding the transition to hybrid please contact the school office.
School Board Metrics Update
On November 17, 2020, the Loudoun County School Board voted to establish metrics that Loudoun County Public Schools will use to monitor community conditions and determine whether the spread of the coronavirus reaches levels that require returning to 100% distance learning for all students or limiting the expansion of implementation of the hybrid model.
These metrics were recommended by staff after extensive consultation with the Loudoun County Health Department. They reflect the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Virginia Department of Health in considering data about the spread of COVID-19 in our community while evaluating the safety and public health implications of school operations.
In taking action last night the School Board determined the following:
If the CDC core indicators relating to the Loudoun County case incidence rate* and the Loudoun County percent positivity rate** are each at the highest risk levels, then LCPS would return to 100% distance learning for all students and would not expand implementation of the hybrid model.
*= New cases per 100,000 persons within the last 14 days reaches > 200
**= Percentage of RT-PCR tests that are positive during the last 14 days reaches >10%
Nothing in this motion precludes the superintendent from implementing 100% distance learning as is appropriate, i.e. should COVID-19 transmission occur within particular classes, a school or schools
.
The LCPS COVID-19 Case Data webpage is updated daily with information regarding isolations, quarantines, and the CDC Core Indicator data referenced in the School Board decision. Embedded below is an image of how the core indicator data is represented on the LCPS webpage.
We are continuing to plan to welcome students in grades 3-5 and seniors at AOS and AET to hybrid learning on December 1, even as we closely monitor and evaluate the conditions in the community. We will continue to provide additional information about the impact of this decision on other elements of LCPS operations as it becomes available.
Thank you for your continued flexibility and support as we work through this process as a community. LCPS remains committed to returning students who choose hybrid learning to school so long as we can safely do so, and your continued vigilance is an important factor in our ability to move forward.
Sincerely,
Eric Williams, Ed.D.
Superintendent
