SELF CLASS
Greetings everyone!
I hope everyone’s fall has been enjoyable! We have numerous things to celebrate in the SELF class world, including our new Second Step Digital Curriculum that we’ve been working through recently!
In SELF class, all grades K-5 are currently progressing through our units on goal setting and growth mindset! These lessons focus on the importance of positive thinking, and keeping an open mind to ways to achieve our goals. Some of the topics we discuss revolve around making plans to accomplish goals that we put in place for ourselves! The three main factors that are highlighted are that all goals must be Specific, Challenging, and Doable! All of the grade levels will be finishing up this unit within the next week or two, and we will be progressing on to Emotional Management units immediately following this!
With our emotional management unit, we will also be diving into The Zones of Regulation (pictured below). The Zones of Regulation is a supplementary curriculum that helps students identify their feelings and notice what types of activities can get us more in control or “regulated” of our bodies and our emotions. Feel free to discuss the zones at home with your students, but please remember that there are no “Bad Zones” and that everyone goes through the zones, including adults!
I hope all is well! Let’s continue to “Grow Together, Achieve Together”!
As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns!

Welcome to Physical Education Class at Abraham Lincoln! I am excited to be sharing my passion for physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle with the students at Abe!
Gym class is off to a great start this school year. Students have learned many new games such as; Head and Shoulders, Knees and Cone, Turtle Tag, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Break the Code, 10 Second Tag, and Flip the Cone.
We have also gone over to the high school track to run and walk. Students have been working on locomotor skills such as; hopping on two feet, hopping on one foot, kicking, throwing under hand and balancing in the gym.
Students have also learned about the game of soccer. In the soccer unit, students worked on kicking and passing skills as well as the games, Four Corner Pin and Soccer Golf. These games helped reinforce the skills being taught
Most recently, students have been learning about the Five Components of Fitness, which are; cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance and body composition. We have worked on muscular strength by playing games like; Take the Bean Bag, Partner High Five, and Partner Pass with a bean ban. Students also worked on muscular strength with station based exercises. Students have also worked on muscular endurance by playing Tug of War. The remainder of this unit will be working on flexibility, cardiorespiratory endurance, and body composition. The next unit we will be covering will be Overhand Throwing.
Please help support your child on gym days by reminding them to wear appropriate gym shoes.
Thanks!
