Message from the Principal

Hello Families,

I just want you to know how AWESOME your kids are! They have done an amazing job of following our new safety procedures. Our teachers are working on assessing your children right now to see what level they are at in reading and in math. This will help us as we plan for small group reading and for math. Your child will get targeted help based on where they score on these assessments. In addition, if they are showing us that they are ahead of grade level expectations, we will be able to accelerate their learning.

I love the family feel at our school. Grace Hill is truly a family of learners. The teachers welcome your child into their class each morning and start their day with a morning meeting. This is a time of sharing and celebrating together. The children build connections with one another and their teacher.

One of the things our teachers were trained in before we started school this year is in trauma and how it impacts the brain and learning. Teachers learned strategies for meeting the social and emotional needs of students and for helping students who have experienced trauma. All of us probably experienced some form of trauma COVID last spring. Some of our families lost jobs. Some got sick. Others struggled because of the quarantine and the loss of connection. Please know if your family is struggling, we are here for you. We have resources to point your family towards. Reach out to us and let us know. We care about your kids and your family!

Finally, our parent teacher conferences are coming up the week of September 28. It is so important that we are able to meet with you. These conferences will be held virtually. Your child's teacher will be providing you a link to a zoom meeting, and you will log in a few minutes before you are scheduled to meet with your child's teacher. We will also have interpreters if you need one. This will be a time for your child's teacher to share results of some of the assessments they have given so you will know what level your child is at, and the teacher can share what they will be doing to meet your child's needs. We value our parents as partners in your child's education so we will also discuss ways you can support your child at home.
