2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR
It's hard to believe this school year is ending soon! We are already in the process of planning for next year and it would be very helpful for us to know if your student(s) are NOT planning to return to Atkinson in the fall. If this is true for your family, please contact Katie in the office at kcarriker@pps.net. Thank you!!
FRONT OF SCHOOL GARDEN BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT - MAY 20
Atkinson’s Outdoor Learning Garden group is asking for parents and students to join us Saturday, May 20th from 9-11 to bring some magic back to the Magic Gardens in front of the school (Division Street). We will be digging, planting, laying mulch and weeding. No experience required.

UPCOMING BOOK FAIR
Dear Parents and Families:
Get ready! This year's Book Fair is going to be epic! We've turned up the volume with more fun, more choices, and more excitement—so kids will arrive curious and leave bolder, prouder, and stronger than ever before. Here's what you need to know about our upcoming Fair:
- Every dollar you spend will benefit our school directly
- You can sign up for Book Fair eWallet—a convenient digital payment account, so your child can shop the Fair cash-free. Grandparents, friends, and others can contribute to the eWallet to help build your home library.
Save these dates and view our school’s Fair site:
- Fair Dates: Monday May 22-Friday May 26
- Book Fair Homepage: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/atkinsonelementaryschool13
We also need volunteers to help during the fair. If you are interested in helping, here is the link to sign up: https://forms.gle/8oppkPuY37iwqxp78.
We can’t wait to see your child at the Fair!

2023-24 MEAL BENEFITS INFORMATION
Free and reduced-price meal benefits expire at the end of each school year. Families can apply for benefits on or after July 1, 2023 for the 2023-24 school year online using SchoolCafe at www.schoolcafe.com/pps or download the mobile app. Updated paper meal applications can be downloaded from: https://www.pps.net/Page/2464 on or after July 1, 2023. Families who do not qualify for free or reduced-price meals can use SchoolCafe to monitor transactions, view balance, set up low balance notifications, transfer funds among students and request a refund check. The system is free to use unless a payment is made with a debit/credit card to pay for school meals which is optional.
Eligible families are encouraged to apply for SNAP benefits. Approved SNAP recipients along with households where all students attend approved Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) schools do not need to submit meal applications.
Households receiving SNAP benefits, attending a CEP school and approved for free and reduced-price meals may be eligible for other benefits, like low cost internet and educational-related fee reductions or waivers.
For questions about meal benefits, please email mealbenefits@pps.net or call 503.916.3402.
THANK YOU TO THE PTA!
What an amazing show of appreciation this week! Thank you so much for all the treats and meals and prizes! We feel so very loved! A special shout out to Robin Webster and Ashley Beach.
ARTS OPEN HOUSE (REPEAT FROM LAST WEEK)
I am excited to announce that we will have an "Arts Open House" on Wednesday, May 24. This will be an opportunity for you to visit our book fair in the library to shop for some summer reading, peruse the hallway art, and hear what your student has been working on in music.
This event will be a "go at your own pace" event - come for as little or as long of a time that works for your family. Please note that all children/students MUST be accompanied by their adult at all times - except when they are called to perform. We hope to see you there!
