Welcome Back!
Monday, August 31st, 2020
This newsletter contains general information connected to school guidelines and expectations. Please take a moment to look over and let us know if you have any questions. On Friday you should have received an Eagle Update that shared First Day of School arrival and dismissal plans for the upcoming year. You will find the drop-off and pick-up information included again in this newsletter as well.
Lunch 2020-2021
Additionally, students will continue to have two recesses throughout the day. One recess is attached to lunch and then additional recess at another time in the day that makes sense. Also, we know that mask wearing is new for all of us this school year. Therefore, our teachers will be providing mask breaks during the day and will look for natural opportunities to go outside. Staff were practicing wearing their masks within the building last week to get use to what it is like to wear a mask throughout the day. I didn't realize that the back of my ears might hurt after wearing the mask all day! So again, we know this is new for all of us and we will do our best to provide some breaks in addition to recess to get use to wearing a mask throughout the day. Let's hope the weather cooperates with us and we have a beautiful fall season to enjoy on our beautiful school campus.
This school year we will be turning off the water fountains/bubblers throughout the school building. We encourage you to fill a water bottle for your child and know that your child will have access to their water bottle throughout the day. We do have filling stations throughout the building as well for our students to access. We will also have bottles of water if needed to ensure that our students stay hydrated throughout the school day.
Birthday Celebrations
Picking Up and Dropping Off During the Day
Also, we kindly ask that you be mindful of end of the day phone calls or last minute transportation changes. The office is hustling and bustling and there is a chance that we could miss your call and/or not have the opportunity to connect with the appropriate individual to let them know of the changes. Therefore, we encourage you to not contact the office after 3:00 PM with transportation changes. We cannot guarantee that your request will be honored - especially if it is via email or voicemail. We do understand that things come up and changes may need to occur in a rare instance. This is ok and we will do our best to ensure that we get your message to your child and to their teacher.
District Mask Communication
Good Afternoon Parents, Guardians, and Staff,
The School District of Waukesha recognizes the importance of face coverings in order to best ensure health and safety in the school environment and to comply with the state-wide mask mandate. We recognize that this will be a learning curve for many of our students and is something that will require teaching, reteaching, and reinforcement. All 19 public school districts in Waukesha County will be utilizing a "three strikes" policy regarding refusal to comply with the face-covering requirement. The following progressive discipline will be utilized in accordance with board policy #5600.01 - Disciplinary Consequences for Student Misconduct.
Teaching, Re-teaching, & Reinforcing
The first week of school will include a heavy emphasis on providing clear expectations, support, and instruction to students regarding face coverings. This will include the information regarding consequences of repeated refusal to wear a face covering. There will be increased leniency during the first week of school in order to best establish this new procedure and requirement for all students and staff; however, all incidents of refusal will be logged in Infinite Campus.
First Refusal
Teacher redirection
Parent contact
Infinite Campus Documentation
Second Refusal
Infinite Campus Documentation
The student will be referred to administration and suspended for the remainder of the school day. A reminder of the consequences for further violations will be provided to the parent and student along with the written notice of suspension perboard policy #5610 - Suspension and Expulsion.
Third Refusal
Infinite Campus Documentation
The student will be referred to the administration. An out-of-school suspension will be issued and the student will be auto-enrolled in eAchieve for the remainder of the school year. The student will be suspended for no more than 5 days until the enrollment and student’s course schedule are finalized. A written notice of suspension will be provided with a resolution detail of "enrollment in eAchieve."
**If the student has an individualized education plan or Section 504 plan, face-covering accommodations should be discussed with the case manager. In the event a disciplinary response is necessary, the administration will follow all federal and state guidelines for discipline, which will include working with the IEP/504 team and potentially proceeding with a manifestation determination process.**
Thank you,
SDW Student Services

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures for Walker's Circle
Drop-Off Procedures
Rose Glen is a relatively large elementary school. Each year we typically have 11 busses bringing our students to and from school each day. Unfortunately, we have a relatively small parking lot to handle the before and after school traffic that is present daily. Therefore, it is critical that we all work together to follow the established procedures for pick-up and drop-off. When we all follow the established the procedures everything flows really well and safety is maintained! Most students at Rose Glen take the bus to and from school each day. If your child is being dropped off and picked up each day then below we have the following procedures. Also know that our procedures will always be available to you in our weekly Smore Newsletter.
GOALS:
To ensure that we are creating the safest environment and procedures possible for morning drop-off.
To ensure that all Rose Glen community members are aware of the current drop-off procedures.
CIDER HILLS CROSSING:
A crosswalk has been added to provide a safe pathway for families from Rose Glen to the Cider Hills neighborhood. Additionally, STOP signs have also been added to slow cars down and to ensure that families are able to cross without having to worry about on-coming traffic. These STOP signs will be activated from 8:30-8:45 and 3:30-3:50.
General Drop-Off Procedures:
Walkers' Circle is the horseshoe shaped entrance and exit located on the side of the building. All cars should enter through the ENTRANCE ONLY of Walkers' Circle to drop children off.
There is NO PARKING IN WALKERS’ CIRCLE. It is intended for fluid drop-off of children. Please exit quickly and cautiously. Be mindful that others are waiting to drop-off and unnecessary stopping causes delays and interferes with the purpose of Walkers Circle.
Cars can exit and turn left from the left lane or turn right from the right lane. NO U-Turns, no Y-Turn, no backing up and out through the entrance, or using the neighborhood cul-de-sac. Traffic either goes right or left out of the circle.
Children should use the sidewalk of Walkers’ Circle to walk to the hill. No children should be seen leaving the car from the driver’s side of the car. All children exiting the car should leave from the passenger side of the car.
Cars should pull up on the right side of the Walkers’ Circle.
- No cars should use the left lane of Walkers’ Circle to park or drop-off children. This lane will be open so that cars can safely pull into the left side for left turn exiting purposes.
- If you want to walk your child up the hill in the morning please do not park in the circle. Please pull ahead and park on the road. This will allow Walkers' Circle to keep moving.
- No parking on Brookhill Drive that runs parallel to Walkers’ Circle (the grassy part of the Walkers’ Circle). This will allow cars turning both left and right to have a clear view of oncoming traffic. Cars that park next to grass area closest to the Walkers’ Circle create a blindspot. Therefore, moving forward we would like to reduce this risk and make this a No Parking Zone.
Pick-Up Procedures
GOALS:
To ensure that we are creating the safest environment and procedures possible for afternoon pick-up.
To ensure that all Rose Glen community members are aware of the current pick-up procedures.
CIDER HILLS NEIGHBORHOOD CROSSING!
A crosswalk has been added to provide a safe pathway for families from Rose Glen to the Cider Hills neighborhood. Additionally, STOP signs have also been added to slow cars down and to ensure that families are able to cross without having to worry about on-coming traffic. These STOP signs will be activated from 8:30-8:40 and 3:30-3:50. If you live in the Cider Hills neighborhood a teacher or staff member will escort your child and cross them to the neighborhood. Please contact us prior to school starting if your child will be utilizing the Cider Hills crosswalk . This will allow us to connect with them prior to the end of the day and ensure that we have all the students that we will be walking across to the neighborhood. We want them to know the plan and be comfortable with the end of the day procedures.
General Pick-Up Procedures:
All cars should enter through the ENTRANCE ONLY to pick children up.
There is NO PARKING IN WALKER'S CIRCLE. It is intended for fluid pick-up of children. Please exit quickly and cautiously. Be mindful that others are waiting to pick-up and unnecessary stopping causes delays and interferes with the purpose of Walkers Circle.

Therefore, we would like to reduce this risk and make this a No Parking Zone.
As you use Walkers Circle, it is important to be mindful of keeping the flow going. Drive forward as cars exit. With the left lane open for traffic, then cars should be able to navigate safely and easily out of the Circle. No student will be allowed to enter or cross the circle to get in a vehicle if the vehicle is parked in the left lane.
- It is important that cars do not park at the entrance of the hill on Brookhill. This is critical to keeping flow into the circle moving. If a car cannot get into the Circle because another car has chose to park, then the whole flow of the Circle is stopped or slowed down. With these changes we should anticipate that there might be a longer line up Brookhill to get into the Walkers Circle. As kids are picked up in the Circle, then cars will be able to enter from Brookhill to also pick up.
- Anticipate that it might take a few extra minutes. This particularly true this year as we anticipate more families deciding to pick their child up from school. A lot of thought has been put into how we can create the safest pick-up possible. Remember that the ultimate goal is child safety. Patience is key during this time of day.
- A 'process' that has grown over the years is our kindergarten families that are picking up at the end of the day at Walker's Circle tend to gather at the bottom of the hill on the grassy knoll (in front of the 5 green dots off of Brookhill Rd) to meet their Kindergarten kids. Kindergarten families tend to park and then wait on this grassy area and then safely walk their child to their parked car. We can continue to honor this process as long as families are mindful of social distancing and wear masks while waiting for their child.
- Please know that adults will walk children down the path to Walker's Circle and will not leave until all students are picked up. If a family is running late then we just walk the students back up the hill and bring them to the office for pick-up (It happens to all of us from time to time!). Just know your child is safe and we would never leave them unattended.
Transportation - Bus Information
In order to access your child's bus route information you need to login to your Waukesha School District Infinite Campus parent portal account. You would have set up a user name and password when you registered your children for Kindergarten.
BUS ROUTE INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE IN YOUR PARENT PORTAL.
To find your child's bus route information:
- Log into your Infinite Campus (IC) Parent Portal.
- Along the left side (black background), click More.
- In the middle section (white background), click Transportation
- Under Bus Detail you will find the morning bus # , pick up location and pick up time as well as the afternoon bus #, drop off location and drop off time.
There is a form available on the Rose Glen website (link: Transportation to Alternate Location Request Form) if you need to change your child’s bus due to child care. This is needed even if your child will be attending the Lawrence Center for before or after school care. Please complete the form and send it in as soon as possible because at the beginning of the school year, changes can take up to 14 days to take effect due to the large volume of scheduling. If you can submit it prior to school starting there is a much better chance that your child’s schedule will be set by the time school starts.
