Refuge Youth Weekly Update

March 15th, 2016 save the lost

On Sunday night we had a great I Heart Night with our invited friends, playing Capture the Flag in the rain, wondering if Kanye West is smiling, and sharing some good food. At the end of the night we focused on the story of Jesus and his meeting with Zacchaeus (Luke 19), the too short tax collector. This story served as a great reminder of how Christ sees us, no matter how we see ourselves. Zacchaeus thought he was too short, too sinful, too hated in the community so he stayed a little further out from Jesus. But as soon as Jesus saw this man he invited himself over to his home for dinner! Jesus wanted to be with Zacchaeus, even if Zacchaeus thought poorly about himself. And this encounter with Jesus changed him! He walked away a new man, ready to serve and love those around him!

That's the encouragement of the gospel: no matter how low we view ourselves, not matter what those around us say, that we might be too short or too messed up, Jesus sees us and still wants to be with us. And Jesus changes us. Remember that this week as we prepare for Easter; a single encounter with the Son of God has incredible power to change and transform our lives, no matter how lost we are.

Regular program this Sunday! Please be in prayer for the many families that are participating in this year's Mexico Mission Trip. Pray that they travel well and safe and that God uses them mightily over this next week!

Special thanks to the Galbreath family for preparing this week's great meal! l. Family dinner continues this week at 5:30pm. Our next open night to help serve a meal is Sunday, April 3rd; let me know if you're interested in helping with these awesome dinners!
