Principal's Message

Dear Alcova Parents/Guardians,


We had a wonderful Curriculum Night last night. We welcomed so many parents into our building. Teachers and parents were enthusiastic and fully engaged. We hope you were able to take away some great strategies for helping your student learn and excel in the classroom. Please remember to have your child read for at least 20 minutes every night.

Drama Club Auditions

Attention ALL 4th and 5th graders. If you are interested in trying out for Drama Club this year, we will be having auditions on Tuesday, September 20th, Wednesday, September 21st and Thursday, September 22nd for our winter selection. Auditions will be held inside Ms. Taylor’s Class from 3:30- 4:30. Once bus and car rider dismissal is over, you will come down to my class to meet for auditions. You can choose which day you want to attend to audition and be prepared to read from a script and do some of your best acting. I look forward to seeing everyone then.

Congratulations to our new PTA Executive Board! Katrina Grassman, President, Brittney Wright, Treasurer, Alicia Williams, VP, and Ebony Harris, Secretary.

All Pro Dads Breakfast Meeting

Thank you to all of the dads and granddads that came out for our first All Pro Dads Breakfast meeting for this school year. Our men and students enjoyed a time to eat breakfast and talk. Then Mr. Lundy led the group in our discussion for the day.


Our topic was positivity. We learned how being positive in all situations can have a positive affect on our children. Our men had a time to talk to their children about this topic using some guided questions.


We can't wait to see all of our men and their kids at our next meeting on October 12th at 7:00am.

Alcova Elementary Media Technology Committee

We are looking for parent and community members to volunteer to be on the Alcova Media Technology Committee. This committee is in place to approve all materials that are purchased for and/or added to the Alcova Media Center Collection. In the event that a book is challenged by a parent or community member, this committee would go through the challenge process, with the help from GCPS Media Services. If you are interested in being a part of the committee, please fill out the form below.

Chromebooks

Chromebooks for grades 3 -12 are assigned to students and they are allowed to take them home daily to complete homework/projects or access ebooks and other resources. If you would like your child (grades 3-5 only) to bring home a laptop each day, please do the following:

  1. Parents MUST complete the Orientation Agreement on My Payment Plus.

  2. Assigned laptops and chargers are the responsibility of the student.

  3. Chromebooks MUST be charged nightly and brought back DAILY. Extra Chromebooks are not available.

School Hours

Please remember school hours are from 8:15am -2:45pm. Students may enter at 7:45am and car riders will begin dismissal at 2:40pm. Starting this year, announcements will begin 8:10am, so that instruction may begin promptly at 8:15am. Thanks in advance for getting your children here on time ready to learn.

STUDENT CHECK OUTS ALLOWED BEFORE 2:15pm.

Each day we strive to dismiss students with a safe organized process to ultimately ensure the safety of each student. In order to keep our procedures accurate and maintain appropriate processes to ensure the safe release of our students, all check outs in the front office must be completed before 2:15pm and all transportation changes must be made in writing with the front office by the parent by 1:00pm. Thank you for helping us keep our students safe.

Emergency - "Day of" Transportation Change Requests

Parents,


If you have a emergency transportation change request you must email 978.transportation@gcpsk12.org for the change to be processed. Please use this email only for "day of" emergency changes, where you were not able to send a note in with your student. Change request must be received no later than 1:30 pm to guarantee the change request will be processed.

Car Rider Info

Just a Reminder: The Car Rider Lane will close at 8:15 am. All students arriving after 8:15, must check in at the front office with the parent. Please do not drop your child off if the doors are closed.
